I used to want one back in 03. But the fear of not getting any parts pushed me towards the yfz which was a rumor still lol. I always keep an eye out for one, but they never get cheap enough for me to pull the trigger on one.

 

Yeah, I definitely know what you mean. Not trying to shoot myself in the foot by saying too much here, but I've tried to get in touch with Black Widow ATV which is fairly local to me, but haven't had any luck. They were supposed to be one of the foremost sources for Cannondale parts. I may have to go through ATK or something. Like you said, Terse, the price has never been such that I could justify the purchase until now. The one that I bought seems to be in really good shape, but neglected. It looks like it doesn't have much time on it, but lack of use is simply a different type of abuse. I bought a battery, air filter and fuel lines, and I'll have to replace the rear tires, as they're rotten. I got it fired up after I got it home, but it died after about 30 seconds. After that, (at the risk of making myself sound like a *******) I could only get it to fire up on carb cleaner. After reading (a lot) about them, it's apparently a well-known issue that the quick-connect fitting for the fuel line at the tank has an o-ring inside that swells or breaks and clogs the fuel line, and the fuel line between the tank and the pump breaks down and collapses, as it's under vacuum and apparently doesn't do well with modern fuels. So, long-story-short, I need to install the new air filter (previous one was the home of some furry creatures), install the fuel lines, and install the battery. Then, I'd like to get it warm enough to do an oil change. Then, after all that, I'd like to take it for a rip to see if it lives up to any of the hype. Even if I don't end up selling it, it wouldn't break my heart. If it sells, I'll have a little extra money in my pocket (probably for a very short time) and if I keep it, I'll have a little piece of ATV history to stare at and ride from time to time.

 

I still have mine and they can be great quads if you decide to hang on to it and do the updates. The problem with that is, while not ridiculously expensive you will spend significantly more than it's worth to get it there. However, they can be made very reliable I love mine and keep it going because I want to. I personally think they are the best engines to ever be stuck in any quad chasis. The front downdraft intake makes for a very efficient and powerful engine. Mine only has a ported head and made 50hp on the dyno that we had just took my 450r off of that with the big 3 that made 47.5. That was with the oem piston meaning it was still at 432cc! They were seriously ahead of their time. Plenty of parts still left. If you need parts, call this guy. He'll have what you need. 480-nine8zero-57six7. His name is Dave.

I had a cannibal back in 05 set up for MX. Like mentioned, the engine was an animal, loved to be revved and pulled hard from bottom to top. Those engines were very noisy though lol. I just did not like the ergonomics compared to my yfz's or my ole laeger crf hybrid.

 

Ha, I remember seeing those in dirt wheels mag. Those get they were the coolest looking quad lol

 

i got to ride a cannondale dirt bike back in the day , did a bunch of laps and couldn't get used to how it handled . i remember it having plenty of power though , i think it was ahead of its time .
