Ok so I have a problem it's a 2012 yfz 450 carburated well I was riding one day in the woods and when I went to start the bike it popped the fuse in the relay. So I had to switch to the spare the bike started up and I went about my way and didn't think much of it. The next day I went to start it to clean it and it popped it again. So not having any spare fuses I put a relay fuse in from my truck. And washed it. Well I rode it like that a bit sometimes it was a delay as it was trying to pop it then it would start. I rolled the bike over on the street maybe 5 mph well now I noticed today that the red on off switch does nothing. And it used to work? Is the switch itself maybe the culprit or maybe the starter?

Take the red kill switch apart and clean it out to start with.

Sounds like there is a short to the frame some place in the harness. I would look at the wire harness close and see if you can find the bare wire.

Ok new update I took the kill switch apart it was clean as a whistle added a little dielectric grease took the whole harness out of the loom all the wires look good all grounds look great all the sheathing is how it should be retaped it all up. So I'm still lost. When I first go out the starter works soon as you push the button. After the bike warms up is when I'm having the problem. As far as the circuit breaker fuse. I can take it out when the bike is running so I don't see how it would start a fire. Either way I want this problem fixed. Could it be the solenoid itself?

Use a continuity tester, set it to beep when you touch the probes together and start looking for the short to ground. I believe boomer got it right, there's a short to ground somewhere. It can be difficult to locate like a taillight wire rubbing on metal, a broken wire in a connector or possibly a loose battery post wire or ground to the frame. Any of those can pop a fuse.

Have you done any work to the quad recently? Prior to this issue occurring?
