yes sir. i had my 06 450 for one ride and noticed the same thing. after the second ride ride it got worse. i took it to the dealer, of course they gave me hell about fixing it saying im "abusing" the quad. so the warranteed the axle, but of course it was an 05 axle, slightly different. the new axle lasted again 2 rides, same thing. each time has always been the sproket hub and the axle/sproket hub got replaced. so now im fighting with yamaha to fix this problem for good. i have owned yamahas forever, but must say this 06 has been the bigest pill of crap i have ever owned. 2 axles in 1 1/2 months, new starter, new stator, many oil leaks, all 4 tie rods loose after 2 rides and they still cant find my fire problem that happens all the time. when cold, the carb will actually catch fire when it backfires. so i bought this quad july 30th i believe. and has had 4 rides total and been in the shop more then on the trails. yamaha knows about the axle problems, all parts are on back order. im looking at buy back on this thing and thinking of going with honda. to bad so sad.

Are the splines fine under the sprocket hub? Maybe just whats showing is damaged.

Did you take it back to the dealer? If so what did they do about it?

when the first axle failed they try to say "abuse"...again with only about 12 trail hours on it. the second time it happend they said they cant warranty it because its user error..i laughed in there face. so right now its looking like buy back for this quad. yamaha cant seem to figure out why mine catches fire when starting cold, carb throat will have flames coming out into air box. they tried new carb, different ignition parts, think they even took off the top half of engine. hondas lookin better and better

Either way, how could this happen? I would think that if the spocket spun on the axle all the threads would look the same, not a couple here and there. :disgust:

im no rocket scientist, but id say it would be stress fracture, or metal impurities. if seen other examples of things like this braking in unexpected points. it could also be that they didnt heat treat it properly :strokin:

What are the long term effects of this type of problem?

CRASH :rant2:
I took the picture to my dealer, and they said they have not heard or or seen this before. They said to bring it down, and they will take pictures and send them off to Yamaha. They said there has to be a missalignment somewhere causing it to walk side to side. I have 3 more months left on my factory warranty.
