My fourwheeler will sometimes kick back into lower gear like a second or half second after I shift up, usually just when running it hard. What might be the cause of this problem, maybe the shift fork? I've got the engine all in pieces right now and wanna fix everything I can think of while I'm in there...

Check all the shift forks for excessive wear, along with the looking for a slightly bent shift fork shaft. Check all the gears that your forks engage into, and be sure the shifting drum grooves and ratcheting mechanisms is engaging properly. Basically, check everthing inside the cases. Use a micrometer and check that all parts are in spec along with visual inspection. If any parts are questionable, replace them. No sense in pulling it back out again for not replacing something small like a shift fork.
