Do you expect a serious reply with such a well thought out and grammatically correct sentence outlining your plans and advice?

I can reply to your original question though:

U SHOULD USE HEATER HOSE ND ELECTRIC TAPE, USE ONE OF THE K&N FILTERS TOO. TRUCK TURBOS WORK THE BEST... THEY MAKE LOTS OF HP... JUST WATCH OUT! TOO MUCH BOOST WILL BLOW UR INTAKE MANIFOLD RITE OFF!!!

As a more serious reply, I can't offer you any direct advice to turbo charging a yfz, but heres probably some things I'd check out.

- You get what you pay for when it comes to ebay turbos
- Your best bet at a cheap turbo would be from a junkyard car.. you need to find a small one though, and that however, will be difficult. On average, the smallest car engines are 2-3 times the size of a 450cc atv, and having a turbo too large will net a negative effect for your riding and enjoyment and unless you were using this as a drag bike, I'm fairly certain that this wouldn't work well.
- Some tiny cars came with twin turbos, and if you can find that, you will be better off.
- There may be some companies that make small motorcycle turbos, but I'd expect them to be fairly expensive.
- If you want to run the calculations, you need to know how much CFM your engine flows at what RPM's and then look at some compressor maps to match a turbo to your engine.
- Planning your setup and running the proper calculations is the more important than anything.

I'd just go with nitrous, its the cheapest power adder out there.

check out www.Boondockers.com
I havent seen a specific turbo for the yfz's. as far as i know ther isnt a "bolt-on" turbo, and it will take alot of modifications, fabricating and time to do this. also be aware that the 450's were not built for boost, and the engine if not built properly for a turbo, will not be able to handle the added strain.

You are correct, high compression is the enemy of a turbo charger, but low compression will yield more "lag". On cars the lowest compression you want to go is 7, average is 8.5 for turbo motors though. YFZ's are around 12.5:1 right? So Derek is right, you would need to replace your piston/rotating assembly with a lower compression one to effectively use a turbo charger.

actually, is what im am trying to say is the rod will be the weakes point. And compression shouldn't really be a huge problem as long as you don't crank the boost controller up. if you keep the boost around 5 to 7 lbs you should be alright.

Most import cars i work on are 12:1 or 13:1 compression and are pushing 25 lbs boost with no probles, but they are also running H beam and A beam rods.

My brother in-laws turbo sled i built him is 11:1 700 polaris IQ and he is at 15 lbs boost, once again wouldn't be able to bush that if we didn't build up (strengthen) the engine for the added stress.
And I agree, Spray is going to be your cheapest and easiest way to get instant HP.
A high compression turbocharged engine would require race gas and at 11/gal, I wasn't factoring that. You can realistically run 15 lbs of boost on pump gas without detonation at around 9-10:1 max with water/meth, but at 11+ compression, no way gtfo. In all aspects of turbo charging, I try to avoid detonation at all costs since that ultimately is what fatigues the internals and causes so many of the problems associated with turbo charging.

If your imports are running 25lbs at 12-13:1 compression with pump gas, then I guess I'm completely wrong, I'm not sure how its possible, even with water/meth injection.

Tell me more? Are they on race gas?

Not a chance on pump gas!!! :) lol most of them wouldnt even cough over on pum gas :)

C16 is all they burn.........Street Racers

Also my bro in-laws sled is running a race gas turbo aswell.......305 hp sled :shocker:

Haha damn, my pockets aren't deep enough to run anything on c16. You can probably calculate the amount of the cost in fuel in dollars/min haha lol :icon_eek: :shocker: :shocker:

tyson racing makes a turbo kit for the yfz for 2,500 and it make 83 hp on gas with 21 psi and its a really good set up look in to it if you want to go fast alk with the turbo you will be maken around 100 or so easy .
