this -----

I just recently bought another yfz 450 after mine got stolen.. its an 05.. i think it has a cam mod.. and an hmf exhaust.. the first day i got it.. i was soo eagr to ride the damn thing.. i jumped on it.. drove it around for a while.. it ran strong.. well then i drove threw some water.. unfortunately the airbox little plug wasnt even on the bike.. water and sand went all threw my airbox.. i took the yfz home... tore off the carb.. took it apart.. cleaned allll the sand out of the carb.. put it all back togeather.. and forgot how many turns to put the air/fuel mixture screw in.. (so maybe that has something to do with this) anyways.. i put it all back togeather.. fired up right away.. drove it around the block.. ran good.. i got it home .. and when i went too put it in nuetral.. it was Reallly rough.. took like 2 minutes to get in nuetral.. i shut the bike off.. and rode it later that day.. and it was fine.. (but it is backfireing and running kinda w00terty now) .. today i started it up.. and went for a ride.. after about.. 15 minutes.. it was like the clutch wasnt disengaging.. i mean i could pull out and everything.. but i couldnt even pull up a wheelie.. it was like.. the RPM's were reving up but the bike wouldnt go faster.. almost seemed like i was peeling out.. rode it too a friends house... (couldnt get it into nuetral) let the bike sit for like 2 hours... started it up... and it ran fine.. was able too doo wheelies and everything... but after about 15 minutes... the same w00ter... any suggestions?? ive searched all over the internet.. and all threw these forums.. no one seems too have had the same problem

Could all these problems be from sand being in my oiL???????? what should i dooo???

I also bought a new clutch .. its a tusk.. i havent put it in yet... trying too do more research first... i wanna see if i should dooo the clutch mod too the new clutch...

you have sand in your oil?

thats terrible. no joke.

are you sure?
are you sure its sand? did you have an air filter on the bike? what type of filter (foam, paper etc?)

are you sure it isnt fiber from the clutch plates, since it went out? i would pull the plastics and the valve cover and examine the cams really really well, look for sand. also pull the oil filter and rip it apart looking for any signs of sand.
^do you think if he just pulled the clutch cover he would be able to check for both?
that way, it takes less time and he can check for sand in and around the clutch as well as check the clutch for wear and tear damage.

but you will still need a new gasket for the clutch cover.
well i did have an airfilter... but when i tore my carb apart... there was sand ALL threw the bowl.. but other then the clutch slipping it seems too run fine.. i just took the clutch cover off right now.. it doesnt look like any sand.. maybe small signs.. i drained the oil completly..

i said pull the valve cover and oil filter because the cams up top should be pretty sterile except for oil, usually its really clean, and the gasket is re-useable, if you see a ton of dirt, well....

and the oil filter should have a large amount of sand if any got in the system. its hard to imagine sand getting through the carb, then past the rings/valves, but i suppose it could.

ya, those are good points.

uhfliction - for the most part, your bike will still run fine if there is sand in it. you probably wouldn't reallly notice anything different until its waaay too late.

what i want to know is that even if sand got in ur carb and then went though ur intake and made its way into the combustion chamber, how would it end up in ur oil in the first place? did u check the black box by ur coolant over flow for sand becuase thats the breather for the crankcase, and if theres sand in and around there then it could easily be in ur oil.
