Is the reason that the header pipe gets red hot because of lean jetting from the factory. Will it hurt anything if I do not jet right away?

I am assuming that going to a 168 main and 45 pilot will remedy the situation?

Not sure. Maybe some early engine damage from what I have read.

It's an $8 mod, and easy too. I am at 45/165 and I noticed a bit of a difference with response, but haven't had it out at night to nitice if the glow has disipated. I'm sure it has though.

You can do it man! :D

hey don't worry about he glowing i called the dealer about mine and they told me that the 400ex and others do the same thing it is just the header pipe is thin on the inside. i had it happen to me after i put gytr all the way around and jetted 45/165. just what the dealer said don't worry about it

Nope, rejetting will not solve the red hot header. Mine is jetted at 178main and 48 pilot and the header is ceramic coated. They all run red hot. But yes to the fact that you should rejet from the factory. They come lean.
