Rebuilt Ehgine, Kick Start Won't Start Hot

I had a stock bore 13.5:1 compression cp piston with kick start last 2 seasons and it started 1st or 2nd kick hot or cold. I now have same piston, stock bore, hot rods stroker kit, ported head, the valve seats were redone, and the valves re-shimmed. This was all installed by a local shop. I can get it to start in 1-2 kicks when it's cold, once it hot it just coughs a few times at most and will not start. Push it in 2nd gear and it will pop start as soon as the wheels turn. Runs great when it going. I have a 180 main with NCVQ needle on the middle clip. I trie a 45,48,and 50 pilot. Runs best and seems to want to start better w/the 50. Tried the air scre from 1/2 turn to 2 1/2, not to much difference. Any advice? Thanks

When it's hot, try holding the throttle open just a little bit. Does that do anything?
Tried that, makes it worse. Instead of coughing a little likes it's trying, it doesn't do anything with a little throttle.
How does it idle? My guess is that your pilot circuit's running a little lean.
thinkin out loud but shouldnt you have a hot start?

Shouldn't need one. Mine kicks over fine hot or cold without a hot start lever.

ah

I didnt know you had a kicker on yours. Do you have 2 YFZ's?
correct me if im wrong, but these quads have auto matic decomp.

the hot start on bikes are to decompress a hot cylinder right? ours is built in the head and cams etc.

Nope, just the one.[/b]
oh i thought you have the one with the sweet fender cut that you can change the colors and stuff on then a stock lookin one. Maybe thats leveldrummer's that im think about
proper jetting makes the world of difference on restarting these yfz's when there hot and ven with proper jetting and say you stall it coming out of a corner and you have all that nice raw fuel in the cylinder from your accelerator pump when you wacked the throttle that is he reason you have a hot start on the dirt bike model get one for your yfz and have it jetted properly and you will never look back
Never needed a hot start before, but I am looking into one. I know if I get it jetted right it will start, just kind of lost on where to go now. Would the needles clip position have an effect on starting? It idles good once it's started with all the the pilots I try. Thanks for the suggestions so far.
I just spent a good 2 months figuring out why mine was hard to start with my kicker.... the 2 clamps for the boot that hold the carb on were all the way tight and it was still letting air in somehow... I randomly decided to put 2 real hose clamps on and it starts A LOT easier now... maybe give that a try, you'll have to shave off the "notches" in the boot with a razor blade though or else the hose clamps wont sit right.

the hot start opens a small plunger in the top of the carb which will let cool air into the cylinder,
have on on my bike, needed it a few times
hot start, shot shmart.... never used one, never needed one. proper jetting is key on these yfzs.
That's seems to be true as I never needed one before, I just need some help on where to go with the jetting. Does what I have seem close? Where should I go next?
when you start it cold, does it need choke?

do you have a 52 or 55 pilot to try?

have you double checked the valve clearances?
no, no, and no. I am going to get some more jets for this weekend.
Anyone have any advice as to where to start changing???
