Put A Switch On The Radiator Fan

hi guys!

I´ve got a heat issue myself. I always thinks my yfz is getting too hot, but it isn´t. My cooling fan works but it almost never comes on, just when I´m riding in a small area, climbing hills or it is just idling.

I´ve been reading that some of you guys are putting a switch on the cooling fan, so you can just manually put it on or off. And if the switch is "off" the fan could automatically still turns on if the bike is getting too hot (if it´s idling for example)

so my question is.

How do you do this? (plug the switch)

What wires do I need to change and so on.......

thanks:)

ps. I like this site alot! I have been reading a lot of useful things that I didn´t know before :icon_biggrin:

just dont worry about it. It will know when its too hot and need more air flow. Leave it alone.
The temperature sensor is on the passenger side of the radiator, it screws into the front side. Mount a single pole, single throw toggle switch where it will be handy for you. Locate the two wires leading to the sensor, and tap into each of these with two seperate wires long enough to reach your switch. Don't cut the factory wire, just use a razor blade and strip some insulation off. Then wrap your new wire around a couple times and solder each connection. Then you can either tape the connections tight or use liquid tape and brush it on. Liquid tape once dry is as good as heat shrink.
Now run both wires to the switch and connect one to each side.
With this done... when the switch is off you will have normal fan operation with the temp sensor, with the switch on it will bypass the sensor and the fan will run constantly. That way if you forget to turn it on, it won't smoke your motor.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.

Thx a lot guys :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool:
I'd recommend isolating the switch with a relay. So, when the switch is on the vehicles sensors curcuit is isolated from the switch curcuit.
how do i get it on when key on and off when key off

I need some help and hopefully someone knows!

I just bought my first yfz 450. Its an 06 and the person I bought it from had no clue about the thing. The owner before him had put a switch on the fan, like you all have been talking about, but it doesn't kick on automatically. Constantly running the fan is killing my battery. Why would a person hook it up like that? And how to I get it back to stock? I want to eliminate that switch completely! Hopefully someone has an idea, TIA.
