New Spark Plug - Backfiring Like Crazy

807 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  yfzrider69
Just replaced my spark plug , with the same one that was in my quad - CR8E
And now it is backfiring like crazy, started off ok, but got worse and worse within about 5 mins and cuts out now.

I know backfiring can mean too lean but Jetted her a while ago and it was running sweet until now -

  • K&N Lid off
  • Baffle out
  • 1000ft

Any ideas?

Did you check the gap on the plug before you set it and has the quad been sitting for a while?

Also, make sure everything is sealed up tightly - exhaust, carb/airbox boots, etc. May have rattled something loose.

No, hasn't been sitting for a while was fine yesterday everything is definitely tight.

Didn't think I would have to check the gap on a brand new plug?

They're not always perfect out of the box. If the only thing you've changed since it was running good was the spark plug, it's probably your spark plug.
Ok, is there a way of adjusting these? bike wont even start now
You gotta check the gap when you take it out of the box. Never assume that it is gonna be right. All you have to do is go by a gapper at the auto part store for a couple bucks if that.
