Hello all I have a 2008 yfz450 with a jardine slip on 172 main jet 45 pilot ncvq needle 4th position gytr air filter no lid on the box air fuel mixture screw is 2 and one half turns out the elevation is northern Indiana. The quad runs good and strong. Just rode a 450 honda dont know what he has done but it pulls hard all the way to fifth gear. Anyone got any ideas how to get the yfz to smoke the honda thanks for the help.

Ok did the cam mod today went out and ran it hard this thing shut everyone up the honda guy dosent want to race anymore lol he said his was down right now Thanks to all that helped.

The cam mod. You think this will help ?
The cam mod will definately help, but you should also get a different header, it will make a big difference. Slip-ons dont really make to much of a difference compared to a full exhaust.

I will be getting the header this week i thought this may be part of the problem

How much of a diffrence dose the cam mod make
The cam mod will make it rev like the yzf dirtbike. It pulls harder through the mid to top end. My friend has a trx450 and it's not even close. I'm a better rider than he is but I rode his bike and it doesn't have as much power as mine.
Well sounds like i was on the right path and all of u have confirmed what i was thinking thanks to all of you for your time i want to out run that honda bad i like honda dont like the rider lol
Ya the hondas are alright. I don't like how high they sit compard to the yfz, they feel a little tipsy.
cam mod, full exhaust system and YZ clutch set = Bye bye Honda!
ya i agree yfz450 is the quad to have the honda runs good but i know the yfz can take it just have to tweak a few things

Ya it's supposed to be better. I haven't had any problems with mine. I don't think it's a must do mod.
Ok header cam mod for sure what about cdi boxes lol

agree. They seem really tippy. The ol' YFZ feels like shes low and sleak and likes to RIP! lol
Cdi boxes don't really give you more power they just increase your max rpms. If you were to get a programmable ignition that would make a difference. If you just do the cam mod and put that header on when you get it you will beat that honda no problem. Depending on what all he has done.
I put the YZ clutch in when my stock clutch needed to be replaced. IMO, it grabs alot better. As stated before it is not a must do , like the cam mod, but you can feel the difference between the YFZ and YZ clutches.

He must have alot done to it because my budddy just bought a 2007 honda 450r hold over and we tweaked the carb and pulled the baffle and my 2008 yfz with my stock pipe and baffle out and drilled pulled like 8 bikes on it then he whent and got hot cams stage 2 for it we just got in last night and we have to tune it yet but i dought hes still going to beat me.


thats stock VS cam mod, open airbox, uncorked exhaust and rejet. 7HP difference

Just got home from riding got the cam mod done today. Funny thing is i rode for about 20 min and everyone got quiet the honda guy dont want to play anymore lol a hundred dollar bet come up and his 450r was not running so he had to go some people are all talk. But thanks everyone for the info
