i have heard of the NCVQ needle many times on the forums, but i dont know what it is. i read its suppose to eleminate or at least help the infamous bog? my jetting is dead on, except for the infamous bog. if anyone can tell me if its worth it or what it is that would be good. i refuse to the "zip-tie" thing.

Its the yz450 needle, imo a must. You really should try the zip ty what i have found is it does nothing on my 05 but on my 08 a world of difference. I used a o ring tho actually a oring chain oring to be exact.
The ncvq needle is out of the 450 dirtbike just like sandslinger said. I know on my '07 the stock needle didn't have any adjustment on it. There is only one notch to put the clip. It has a different taper to it than the stock one. I highly recommend it. There only about 12 bucks at the dealer.
I pulled a ncvp needle out of my one carb i bought, what it is?
From what I have heard the the NCVP is a richer needle that guys use on their heavier modified engines but I could be wrong.

Ya I think you are right. I was just reading about them and they said it is used when you're bike is pumped up over 500cc's. And they also said it is a richer needle.
i was hesitant about eh zip-tye at first too, but after doing it DO IT!!!!!!!!
the zip tie will help with the bog, so will a new leak jet. if your bike is jetted right and running well, a new needle probably isnt necessary, the bog problem usually lies within the accelerator pump.
The NCVQ is a good purchase. On mine, it did not eliminate the bog. It does give you a lot more carb tunability (not sure if that's a word or not). I agree with Leveldrummer in that, if it's running good in general you don't need to mess with it. However, it will give you more adjustability in the future if you modify (intake, engine work, etc.).

If you don't want to do the zip tie mod, you will have to at a minimum change the leak jet, or possibly get into modification of the pump (stud length, diaphragm, different pump cover, etc.) to eliminate the bog. Sometimes, just the leak jet fixes it, sometimes it takes a combination of things. I have not heard of any one having to do more than change the leak jet if they've done the zip-tie mod.

Just out of curiousity, what is your issue with the zip tie mod?

alright thanks guys. i have a 50 leak jet in there right now. and the bog didnt change at all with it. it runs ok, but it could be a lot better. and i dont like the idea of having a ziptie have a part of my carb. and im sure my dad wont either.
my dad wasnt too hip on it either to begin with

You want to change the leak jet to a 35, if you go bigger it's gonna make the bog worse. That's probably why you didn't notice a difference.

If he does not want to do the zip tie or o-ring modifications to fix his some of his problems just let it go, he does not want our help.

and if you don't want to use a zip tie or o-ring, then use safety wire or replace the spring with one of the heavier ones being sold on ebay. I did the zip tie on mine and got rid of all the bog with out having to change the leak jet.
i just did the zip tie mod on my new 08 and damn has it made a difference! i had put the lighter spring in first and if i nailed the throttle the bike would stall right out. then i read about the zip tie mod and said what the hell its free. definetly do it. i didn't even have to change my leak jet, its stock #70
