I ran 1/8 mile drag race today and was kinda disappointed i done the cam mod, exhaust, air filter, and jetting over the winter and it only gained 2 tenths of a second from stock last year wat else could i do to make it faster? Also the head pipe is gettin very hot after jus idleing for a few minutes and its back firing when i turn it off could that mean its running lean?

you could do the zip tie mod for no bog which will give u better acceration..also mine back fires to after i shut it off idk why it does that...i did when my quad was all stock and it still does it after i put the pipe on and a couple other things
There are allot of variables that have to do with your time. reaction, launch, shifting, tires, and the track so dont base your quad off of the time you got. second the backfire on shut off is normal allot of yfz do it. as long as your not popping on decell then you shouldnt be lean. If you want more power hear are a few things. FCI high comp piston zip tie and 35 leak carb bore port n polish ect. there are endless options it all depends on the $$$ you want to drop.
to add, if you have a full aftermarket exhaust, you most likely have a sigle wall header, most manufatucers got away from the double wall headers because the sigle wall disapate the heat alot better. I have a full exhaust and minde does the exact same thing even when its below zero out side.
what did u run in the 1/8th?
mine with intake, exhaust, and 15/38 gearing i ran a consistant 8.65
lets see with my upgrades now what i run
thanks for the replies i would like to do more work to it but i dont have the money right now. the back firing didnt start till afer i re jetted it so i thought my jetting might be off. i ran 9.15 at 65 mph is the best i could get out of it and i was running 9.35 last year when it was stock.
Also i was wondering if my gearing would have anything to do with it? I was jus hitting 5th gear at the line so would it help to drop it a tooth on the front to help me get there quicker or would it top out to quick? Any suggestions im planning on goin back this weekend to run it again and would like to be able to get under 9 seconds.
