I just rebuilt the motor in my 2009 YFZ450R. Reinstalled everything, but cannot get it to start. Cranks ok. Cranked for awhile and then BIG backfire! Cranked again and backfire again.

Also, I cannot figure out where the neutral switch wire from the engine case plugs back into. maybe this has something to do with the no start.

Please help.

Update.
Ok, I figured out where the neutral switch connects too. The wire was hidden.
Still no start and no codes either?
I could not get a backfire this last go round.
Any ideas what to check?

Checked for spark. Pulled plug and put up against frame while turning over and spark.

I took the top apart again tonight and the cams were off by 180 degrees. I have no idea how this is possible as they were correct when I closed the motor up. So, I rotated them 180 degrees and checked the timing mark and took pictures to verify.

It still will not start!

Are you sure you didn't bend a valve with the timing that far off? Sounds like you might have bigger issues.
