I just got a 04 yfz 450....traded a raptor 660 +cash for it.

It runs good and ran great at the place, but when i got it home it was hard to start (it was only 25 degrees and before it was in the 40s), but did fire up and i ripped up and down the street and it pull like crazy but backfired and lost power for a split second once and a while, it was also doing it when trying to start it to.

It has a 13.1 high compression piston,K&n intake, and duncan racing exhaust. I think he may have said something about the carbs to.

I also didnt get to ripp it good at the place cause there was a cop parked right there with someone pulled over but it was a small dealership...guy seemed cool and gave me a ton of paperwork of the work done and when it was done...looks like the guy kept up awesome on maintenance the bikes clean and the intake and everything looks all new.

ip think they are just plain hard to start in the cold even if its jetted right. mine started fine a fewe days ago and it was 45 and today at 30 its barely starts and idles like crap.

are they bad to ride it like this or will i mess something up.
When its real cold outside i usually just let mine warm up for about fifteen
yeah ^^^^ its should be fine (assuming it ISNT your jetting) just warm it up nice and easy.
how will i be able to tell if its the jetting...if its not backfiring or sputtering..but what if its just lean enough to not be noticable will it mess anything up. Im mainly parnoid because the 13.1 piston.
it should be ok unless its drastically lean. you can do the spark plug test. http://www.dansmc.com/sparkplugs1.htm

read that and look at the pictures in the link. this is an easy thing to do to check your jetting.
alright thanks alot..i appreciate it.
Better make sure you run race gas or you'll beat the piston to death and have rod failure due to detonation.
ya i just got a can from him he doesnt know the octane so im not even gunna use it but the tank has it in there right now and im just gunna go to sunoco and get a thing full of 110
Not a bad idea. Its too lean for the cold weather.
Ya i made another thread but i mine as well as ask you here to....it backfires and doesnt like starting in this cold weather even once its warmed up it takes awhile and i have to give it alittle gas...once its running backfire as very minimal though...what would cause this...think the valves need to be adjusted.
Probably not the valves. Could be junk gas and you probably need to bump the main jet up a few sizes.
its runs great its just the starting? you really think its the main...i thought that only did full throttle
Your valves may be out of spec. If you're having trouble starting try playing around with the fuel screw.
