Jumping Check List

I have been riding for many years, but just started MX racing. While I am not that fast yet, my jumping or lack there of needs some serious help. I get myself set up pretty good, but just can't seem to get the massive launch I am looking for. I don't know if I am overthinking things or what. What do you guys do or think about to go big? I am always thinking about a bad wreck which makes me hesitant and I don't seem to carry the speed needed to go big. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I can do the little jumps with no problem, but anything like a set of 2 or more doubles, where I have to hit a designated landing zone and set up for the next one is intimidating at this point.

go in with confidence. Trust yourself and your machine. And i usually go gear higher then you think at first. My buddys 60 foot double i though it was about a 3rd gear jump, tunred out to be a 4rth mid jump. Just about cased it big.
practice... learning how to preload will help a bunch too
this wont help, but some people just dont have it in them, ive always rode, and have never had the balls to hit a jump like a could, the wreck always crosses my mind, and i just cant press the throttle, i accepted the fact a long time ago that flying like that just isnt for me. now i race XC. and plan doing some mx races just for fun (rolling all the big stuff)

thats cool man, whatever blows your skirt up.

But i can tell ya one thing, sailing thru the air with your quad at a 45 and your leg out, lookin back is the absolute best feeling in the world
just build up to it, if you have the balls it will come with time. What really worked for me is riding beside some that knows the speed to clear the jump. Just stay with them and its easy.
You just cant think about wrecking I never think about it I just jump it. Tell ur self that its no big deal and just hit it.

you don't have to know how to preload to hit a jump... you just need to estimate what speed you need to hit it and remember it is usually better to hit it a little too fast than come up short. Try to remember to keep the throttle at a steady position as you go up the face of the jump (don't let off or pin the throttle on the face of the jump). 3rd gear will usually have enough speed to clear most jumps (3rd gear pin is roughly 90 feet, which is a very long jump for most riders)
Depending on what the jumps like, your not going to sail 90ft on every jump 3rd gear pinned.
what seems to work for me is to just COMMIT to catching someone faster and keep up if uve chosen a good person to chase then if u go as fast as the then u know ur gonna clear it
practice on the jumps you know you can do. once you've jumped enough, it just comes natural. you kind of get an idea of what you need to do for certain types and sized jumps. theres not really any special way to jump, seeing as how not every jump is the same, u can coast and clear a 35ft jump, and also have to be 3rd gear to do the same length jump. start with jumps you're comfortable with, get used to them and getting you're body position down, then start moving up.
I was the exact same way when i started MX, and i raced a craptor!!!! TANK!!, probably the best thing i did though. Anyways, my very first moto, i kinda hung around mid to back of the pack at hit the jumps at my own pace to jest get the feel for them. Then go a little bit more, each race i would push myself just a bit harder. Eventually the though of crashinng or casing a huge jump goes to the back of your mind and you just roll with it. Also you don't need to hit the huge jumps and get massive air, the bike doesn't move any faster with the wheels in the air, but on the other hand, the guy next to him with the wheels on the ground and pinned in 3rd already, is comming up on his rear as he just landed that massive launch! Also the bggest help with jumping and being faster on the track I Found is to find a gravel pit or similar ridding area and mark out a "track" and ride it over and over again, pushing my self harder and hard each lap i did. Just make sure that when you start feeling like a limp noodle to stop cause thats when you WILL crash.

ninja turtles?? :mhihi:
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tooo funny!!

I wike turtues LOL i have to add that to favorites. im still laughing.
Accidently hit a triple.

Rode my first hare scramble Sunday and it was a mix of woods, and 2 mx tracks. Never rode a MX track in my life until that day and had no idea what was ahead. Thought it was a tabletop..it wasn't. Then and there I realized it's a fairly good idea to keep your speed up a little for whatever is ahead.

plus it's a race, so race. When I plopped over one I got bad feelings that someone was about to land on top of me.
