ok so i just got my motor back from a rebild, and i took it to a dealer to install it in the bike, bc i really dont have the time to do it, anyways make a long story short i just got a call from the dealer and the guy goes, "hey dude as i was mouting the motor back, and spacer fell out of the motor (i guess out of one of the holes), he said, this spacer goes between the crank shaft and the cylinder its a dial pin spacer with a O ring on it, helps prevent from to much coolent to go into the motor".. now the guy that rebuilt it knows what he is doing, and i cant get a hold of him right now and i herd the motor run over the phone, when he was done. i told the guy that he said the motor will still start but not for to long.. is this dude at the dealer just trying to make some extra cash, he said he will charge me extra hour to make sure that spacer is there(70bucks) plus new gaskets for the reinstall.. can some1 doing a rebild really forget to put that spacer in? and if that spacer is not there can the motor turn over? and how can it just "fall" out of the motor?.. i dont know who to trust at this point..

please reply

thanks justin

all the oil lines use a dowel pin to mount, if he happened to drop one down inside the crank itll chew it up and possibly damage the rank, but this should be his responsibilty.

well the guy at the dealer never fired up the motor yet.. he said hes gonna wait on me to get a hold of the guy that did the rebuild to make sure he put that spacer in..
that is NOT your responsibility to pay for [email protected]! you paid him for the rebuild and he did a careless job why would you be at fault?
so i just told the dealer to gohead and see if that spacer is there he just caled back and told me yea the guy who did the rebild put a new one in... but now i just got chargerd an extra hour and for new gaskets for no reason... how stressfull :angryfire:
So I'm gonna go with yeah, you got scammed. That sucks.
I hope that dowel didn't go somewhere else like between the case halves... :shocker:
yea well people like that will get what comes to them when the time is right...

i dont think the dowel fell in the engine... i think it probably fell out the sides (like where the oil lines hook) and the dealership guy said "it fell out of the motor, it should be between here and here) then charged the kid to "check" that it was still in there.
yes he charged me an extra hour and for new gaskets.. im gonna blow a storm tomrw when i go to pick up my bike, it tOOK HIM 20 mins to "check" if that spacer that magicly fell out of my motor was installed witch it was.. i wont be going back there ever again...
Which spacer fell out? Tell the dealer you want the spacer and the gaskets they replaced also. I only replace gaskets if they are ripped and if you had the guy that rebuilt the motor put in new they shouldnt be tore up taking them off once.
Sounds to me like the coolant dowel and O-ring either on the inside of the side cover or possibly (sounds like this is the one he checked... there are 2) that is under the jug on top of the cases.

It sounds like he dropped it upon install couldn't find it and installed a new one, and your dealer found it.... absolutely wanted to make sure it was there (however he didn't check the inside of the side cover) and charged you accordingly.

Or... you got had, but I think they did the right thing.
