Interchanging Parts To The R

1589 Views 19 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  casedawg350
i have read of people putting parts from other quads onto the R... anyone have pics or experiences with the following?

ltr-450r pro armor nerf bars?

08 or earlier yfz exhaust (slip on, header or both)

asv clutch and brake levers from 08 yfz

rear grab bar from a 08 yfz

pro armor brake and shift foot controls from 08 yfz

anything else that you guys have put on your R from another quad please share

i tried a yfz exhaust on the yfzr it didnt work for me. the exhaust pipe wasnt bent low enough to clear the rear shock resi. but the headers are the same.
the new 09 yfz450r the rear hubs and the swing arms will fit my 07 yfz450 my sponser is helping me buy the parts

cool... im sure the guys with the older yfz's will appreciate that
Will YFZR a-arms and tie rods fit on a non-R model, say an 04? How long are the stock shocks on the R? Ive got 16.25" standard travel shocks for mine so they are a bit longer to fit the R model arms, if they will work.

Will not work.
a arms will fit but you need shocks unless you race tt then you can use the stock shocks

SO the a-arms from the R will fit on my 04?

Thats the reason i asked about the shocks. My TCS standard travel shocks are 16.25" long, thats 3/4" longer then the stock shock. If the R shocks are say 16.5 or 16.25, i dont see it being to bad of a setup to try out.

Do you run your stock yfzR a-arms? If u dont, would u see your stock ones?

They will "fit" but the geometry will be wrong, because the lower a-arms are closer together on the R, and the frame rake is different.

So the bottom part of the R frame is actually narrower basically? If you try to put them on a non R model, with the added width of the lower section, its gonna look like the lower arms are +2 and the upper arms are stock length. That basically what your saying?
And i beleive the R stock shocks are 18.25

I also discovered that the leverage ratio is different on the R. If you have long travel Fox Evol's, you can put them on your R, and just adjust the air pressure. But if you have shocks with springs, you will probably need softer springs.
there is a guy at our local track that has it done ill get pics when i see him but it does work he said thats way im doing it
Anyone tried a YFZ axle on the "R" yet? Does it fit?

i think its the same, the only difference is that the R's hubs are wider

I believe the yfz450r axle and carrier are different.
To use the yfz axle, you need to also use the yfz carrier.

carrier is right, the brake and chain hubs splines are to big in the "r".
ok im wrong on the a arms working, they will but youll have to make top a arms +2. the guy we race with just made his top a arms
ive heard of people putting the standard rear hubs on the R's to narrow it.
