Hid's On The R

just wanted to see if anyone has installed HID's on their R. i dont have one yet so i dont know if the stock lights are AC like the yfz450's or DC. One more thing... is the stock stator on R strong enough to power the HID's or do we have to upgrade it? if so will the older ricky stator fit?

thanks for your input!

i thought i read that the R's stator was 100w now.
From the Shop Manual, page 2-12:

AC magneto
14.0 V, 265 W at 5000 r/min
You'll lose some wattage in the rectifier/regulator.

The lights will be DC. I doubt any YFZ had AC powered lighting.

all the 04-08 yfz came with AC power to the headlights, that is the reason you had to run a relay from the battery to the headlights when you switch over to hids... or in most cases, use the wiring that comes with the ricky stator. That is the reason that the head lights on those years would only turn on when the motor was running (AC voltage cannot be stored in a battery)... can you tell im an electrician lol.

so back to the original question... anyone done it?

Interesting. So much for a Honda guy answering questions. I just looked up the electrical schematic for the YFZ450S and sure enough there is a wire from the magneto to the headlight switch. On the YFZ450R, the lights are wired after the rectifier/regulator so that would make them DC.

The schematic is in the last few pages in the Shop Manual.

so does this mean you can use a hid kit and not need to change anything else with the R
I just had Rich S(Simpleracing.com) do an HID kit on my new yfz 450r and they look sick!!!!

I got a pic but it wont let me post it with photobucket or flikr, it cost me 220 installed.

What did this HID KIT include??????

is it just turning your stock lights into HID's?

And by the way... i picked up my R on thursday ( :icon_biggrin: ) and this weekend i got to try out my HID's for about a half hour or so and i had no problems with the battery draining or not being able to start it afterwards.
No it is a complete kit from bulbs to ballasts.

i understand that... HID's have to have bulbs and ballast.

what i am asking is if the kit includes new light housings or if they just replace the stock light bulbs in the stock housing?

reason i'm asking is because 220 for HID's is very expensive.

heres a shot of mine on the R.

which kit is this, i want hid's and this looks pretty sweet.
Well it is installation too, I didnt wanna mess with it so I just had somebody do it that knew what they were doing. It does use your stock housings just taking out stock bulbs, re wiring into your stock harness, new dust covers, and they come with a one year warranty.
a buddy of mine gets sells these kits for 140 bucks... shipping is prob. 5 or 10 bucks. these things are like riding with spots of daylight ahead of you.

installation is perty simple...
1) remove the lights (1 screw each)
2) the nose plastic (6 screws total)
3) mount the ballast with some zip ties
4) cut the plugs off the stock headlight and wire it into the hid (2 wires)
5) install the new light bulbs into the stock headlights (just like the stock bulbs)
6) re-install all parts like stock.

beginning to end if you have never removed any of this stuff i would say it would take an 1.5 hours with basic hand tools... if you have removed these before and have a good idea of what your doing id say 45 min.
^^ Are the kits only for the "R" he sells???
looks to me he has them for the YFZ450 and the YFZ450R...

I'm looking to do HIDs on my YFZ (not an R) His kit is nice, like the plug and play option, but that's a lot of money for a HID kit.

yfz450's yfz450r's, raptor 700, trx450's a ton of these bikes use the same bulb, we have all installed the same HID kit on all of these bikes, the only bike that he couldnt get a HID kit for was the LTR450. reason being is that they dont use a regular bulb, the made their own so its not cost effective to mass produce them, so we just took a stock bulb and epoxied an hid into it and it works like a charm.
