Hi I have a 2016 yfz450r that has a troubling issue. I do mainly motocross racing and everytime I go to start the race from the starting gate the bike goes 10 or 15 meters then starts to loose power. It doesn’t totally cut out just stumbles and messes about and I dip the clutch, rev a bit and of the bike goes with no issues for the rest of the race. Bike is totally stock accept for having a full fmf race pipe.
I replaced the battery in case the fuel pump wasn’t getting enough jizz but no difference. I’m at a loss and would be grateful for any advice on what to try.
My race is always over before the first corner as I’m last into it so I’m fighting the whole race even though I qualify in 2nd or 3rd.

Yeah, your pipe flows more air so the engine needs more fuel. Sounds like you are dealing with a lean condition, which can be dangerous if the engine overheats. One of the nice things about carbs is that it is a simple jetting change, but with fuel injection you need to reflash the ECU or get an adjustable ECU like the Vortex. I really like Yoshimura's data box for my LTR, which has an O2 sensor on the exhaust and automatically adjusts the fuel to your target AFR (air/fuel ratio). Unfortunately they don't make them anymore.

Is vortex the only one out there? It’s pretty dam pricey!
Power Commander offers a piggy back option--their PC 6 I believe. It also has an autotune option (you have to install an O2 sensor on the pipe--weld a bung). It's about half the price of the Vortex. You don't get the multiple maps of the Vortex, though. Without the autotune (which is sold separately and costs more), it's a trial and error process from the base map. Check out Rocky Mountain--they have them.
