Few Problems With The Yfz

I had my yfz apart to try to diagnose a starting issue. The bike would have a small hitch in the starting. As soon as you pressed the starter, it would pause for a second before starting. I found looked all through the harness and everything looked fine. I also took the carb off to clean it out good and see what size jets were in the bike.

Its been about 2 monthes and I just got it all put back together. Threw it on a charger and it seems to be cranking better now.

However now i have a couple of problems.

Problem 1-is that bike smokes a little(very little at idle) and a litte more when you really rev it hard.
Problem 2- The bike is popping like hell with flames shooting out of the exhaust. This happens when you let off the gas after reving it.
Problem3-The overheating light comes on as soon as you turn th key on and the nuetral light does not come on at all( even when the bike is in neutral)

Anyone have any thoughts on my problems here?? I am on spring break this week and too broke to go anywhere so i would like to work on the bike and get it running top notch..

If you are wondering about jetting the bike has a 48 main, 175 pilot, and 3rd clip needle.
The bike is mostly stock with just a k&n filter, and complete rossier exhaust, no lid, and elevation of about 0. Thanks to any and all help.

I dont personally know your problem but i do know your gunna need to give more info smoke color and/or smell (sweet) and so on.
For the last one with the lights, did you just switch the bulbs on accident? Since it would never overheat (causing the neutral light to come on) and the hot light comes on when you turn the key, like it would if it were in neutral.

Under a load? If it's not under a load you're wasting your time.

Under load or just sitting there? If it isn't under a load (riding it) you're wasting your time.

Does the light stay on or does it turn on and off. If it turns on and then off that's normal. Check the sky blue wire near the shifter going into the case...may have a bad connection. Or check the wires leading from the clutch switch.
my overheat light comes on when i turn the key, but then it goes away as soon as i hit the start button...like it needs to know theres coolant flow or something?

This is a slight possibilty. I cant remember switching them but it has been a while so my memory is not really fresh. I will check it out. Thanks for the tip.

To answer the first two the bike was NOT under a load. It was in my garage. I always thought the bike should not smoke or pop at all....meaning i thought it did not matter if the bike were under load or sitting on a stand. Shouldnt a properly running motor not smoke and not pop even if it is on a stand??

Thanks for the help though.

yea, the light comes on when i turn the key, but it stays on even when the quad is running. I just changed the coolant so it should not be over heating.
as far as the popping noise, my bike does the same thing, and so did my raptor 660 after i put the HMF pipe on it, also my brother in-laws 450r does it too. its normal when at idle and in neutral reving it.

No the popping is not normal. You are to lean and need to go up a size on your pilot jet.

yea, its not the normal occasional decel popping. Is the flame out the exhaust a sign of it being lean as well?i would have thought that was a sign of it being rich? I am new at jetting so i am open to suggestions. What would you reccomend i go to on the pilot? Thanks

What size pilot do you have now? Whatever size you have now go up one size and see if it makes a difference. I runa 48 in mine with full exhaust, filter, and ncvq needle. Oh and thanks for the asv lever it looks sweet.
