Exhaust Db?

what exhaust makes the 99 db limit? what will make the 96 limit? I have a mostly stock 05 450, just have the gytr air filter, jet kit, and slip on. I think it runs around 100-102 db right now. I have the exhaust cap that is supposed to bring it below 99 but haven't put it on yet for a race to be tested. just looking for other options.

thanks

Venom's (site sponsor) exhaust is rated at 96db without a plugged up can. I think it is what it says, since I have no way of testing it, but it has a nice low note, but sounds good when you open it up. I have one and am very happy with the sound, quality, and power of it.

is this the only exhaust other than stock that you have tried, if not how did it compare to others that weren't trying to make sound limits?

thanks again,

Dubach Racing (DR. D) makes one that will meet your specified db limit, check out Magic Racing on the site sponsor list.
i beleive Yoshimura has a 98DB exhaust.

HMF has an option of a quiet core with theres, from 102-104DB to 96-98DB

Basically any company makes a 98DB range pipe.
most companies should meet it. if not they offer a quiet core. they make them for racers that need to pass inspection.

No, I had a FMF Ti-4 slip on and mid pipe with the stock header. The Venom is quite a bit quieter than that was. Although that was right after the yfz (04/05) came out and there wasn't a lot for sound restrictions. I can tell quite a difference in power though over it. Supposedly the stock head pipe isn't that bad from what I heard back then. I liked the FMF, but it was loud at about 102-104db.

The Venom also is more of a low/mid range pipe, with still decent power on top. I race xc and that was what I wanted, and it met my requirements.

Some exhausts will depend on your riding style and where you want your powerband to be, low/mid, or mid/upper. Their is some pipe tests I believe pinned at the top of the powertrain section, you could check out and see what you think. Some people also choose based on style or appearance so, after you get some ideas, look at them and pick the style you want.

There are many options, like the Dubach(Dr. d), others, etc. that perform good also, just giving my opinion on what I have.

I am no builder or tester, but usually you end up losing some power with corked up exhausts. I would try to find one that is rated at a certain db over buying one then corking it up. I would think that type of exhaust was best designed to be open, so when corked will not perform as well, vs a pipe that was designed for a maximum powerband uncorked.

Not looking to get into a debate, just offering up my limited opinion.
