I have seen quads with a dirt bike stop button in place of the black box with lights, on/off and stater button. Then you just push the dirt bike button to start it.

Has anyone done this on the yfz?

If so, how do you wire it?

Thanks! :)

Go kickstart and re-wire like me and have no buttons and only (3) cables:

throttle
front brake
clutch

Very, very clean, but you need to stall it off - I'm good at that anyway.

In your case you could get a tether style kill switch or a dirtbike kill switch and use those instead of stalling it.

I know, but I didn't have time before my trip to do it so that's what I've ended up w/. Probably not legal for organized racing, but I don't race and I'm not organized.

It is simple, I do it with all of my bikes. You have to connect the RUN/OFF wires together and wire the push button to the two starter wires. I don't remember the colors, but you can take apart the switch like I did.

Connect the red/black wire to the tan wire.

Use the blue/black and black wire to connect to the new button.

That's it.

It is very possible that your colors are different. These colors are probably off a little due to the flash anyway. If your wire colors are different, translate them with the attached picture.

It doesn't effect your neutral light does it?
Is there a good looking small start / stop switch out there?

Thanks Geoff.

Doesn't affect neutral light.

Call Terry Racing at 205.477.4319. He has them in stock and can send them out today. Tell him Brit sent you.

It's a pretty trick solid black button, works great.

Brit,
Can we see a pic of your handlebars now that you have it done?

This is an earlier picture of my quad, hence the spottless, scratch-free plastic, but you can still see the switch.

For those who are going to ask, the round zip tie on the kill switch is there so that when I fall off during a race, and yes I fall off a lot, I can just quickly stick one of my fingers in the hole and pull the switch open. This is a must when you're frantically searching for the kill switch and adrenaline is spilling everywhere.

Less equals more in my opinion.

If you need a switch, call Terry. He's the man.
