Counter Balancing In The Air?

1736 Views 14 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Transplanted
a while back i cracked my stock swing arm.

even tho i repaired it i ended up getting a good deal on a 08 LoneStar Racing swing arm (stock length) and went with that in hopes to never have to deal with it cracking again.

with my old setup i never seemed to have a problem jumping and keeping the bike nice and level thru the air but now with the new swing arm im having a hard time.

now it seem i just cant control the front end, and end i up scary vertical in the air and fighting to bring the nose down

has anyone eles went thru this after installing a aftermarket swing arm? YES/NO?? is this a normal learning curve? i know they are a bit heavier then stock but now it seems like im pulling a cement block thru the air haha

HELP! any tips? tricks?

im going to be attending a all quad track day soon and hope to get this bad boy back under control

Well, i know this might not be of any help, but when i went from my blaster to my YFZ, i thought, hmm, this is gonna be the same as jumping my blaster, WRONG, i went nose 1st and about went over the bar's when i landed, even now, if i hop on my friends LT-R or my friend's 450r i either go way nose high or nose dive, it just requires a new riding style. so my advice is just try and experiment with it.
Sounds to me like the new swinger is making the rear suspension rebound slower than the stock setup/linkage.
Did you play with the rear shock settings to dial it in? Set the rear suspension up and see how it goes.
That would be my guess.

hum... even tho i used the same rear shock and linkage? so you're saying i might need to dial it in differently now? if so ill def. have to look into that
Well, is the swinger stock length? If not it could cause it.
If it is heavier, it would still be able to be remedied by playing with the suspension.
it seems like your compression isnt low on your rear shock and the rear isnt getting loaded up on the jump and pushing off like the fronts
yes it is stock length ill add that to my OG post

ill def. be looking into this... makes sense

just want to be clear

so you say it needs to be low = soft? shocks only show soft and hard settings
Think how the suspension works as you hit a jump face. The shock compresses as the quad's motion transitions from flat to up the slope. If the compression is too soft, it would compress too easy, squatting the rear more than what you are use to. Also, if the rebound is then too slow, it would have a hard time "keeping up" (rebounding) with the front suspension, and would result in the quad flying through the air with the nose up. You want them to work at similar "speeds". Suspension is like jetting, if it's off it is a b*tch. If it's set right, it is cadillac smooth. I would play with both settings. Harder comp and faster rebound. Just go a click at a time until it feels right. Click comp, jump, click rebound, jump, etc. Once you feel good, you may leave it, or might find you want to fine tune it even more. Post back with your results.
you need to make everything harder, but due it in small increments, it just needs to load up a little bit more
well i went out to dial it in and all was fine till...

haha
lol, i just commented on that and came here to say some stuff, but it looks like your already on it. I guess you didnt counterbalance right...
nope i fixed that on the table top jump then got excited and.... haha yeah
Damn dude, you are supposed to get dialed in to avoid this kind of stuff! Sucks you broke yourself though. Doubles are make it or "break" it though.
