Not sure how to do what you are talking about, but this is what I did.
I took the thumb lever out of the housing. Put it in a vise up to the notch where it starts to bend. I then took a Map Gas torch and heated it up a little bit and gave a few small hits with a hammer. Installed, removed and did it over a couple times, until I found a much better leverage position. I have smaller hands and this greatly reduced the effort required to reach/ push the throttle. I also removed the spring from the housing. I have the ebay carb spring in another carb, just have to swap it over, but I can tell a huge difference, stock position with ebay spring, vs. bent lever and no ebay spring. Once I install the spring i should have no issues at all.
