Alright, i finnaly have the opportunity to get a dirtbike, its no doubt i want a 250F, but i know abosolutley nothing about whats good or bad, its common sense that honda is gonna build the best motor. but this is going to be my 1st bike, so im gonna need something that can handle a amatuer riding it, so i can progress my skills, i dont mean to sound cocky( which im not) but im not "bad" on a quad, does any of the skills aquired with riding a quad carry over to bikes??

just need some head ups, and downs. im probally going to buy used. so all info would be helpful! and the only reason im asking on here, is because this is kinda like my home away from home. ha.

thanks yall!

haha, ive ridden dirt bikes and there is absolutely nothing in common in my opinion. DBs are just akward to me, from the twist throttle to the seat height. they are fun, but i suck at riding them, lol.
haha. im sure guys that have ridden bikes since they popped out. say the same thing about quads.

but any one know anything??!! lol.
there is a ton of competiton on bikes as quads! just wastch out for what you get! alot of the m are going cheap but they have been raced or reamed! alot of it is personal opinion. I personally think if you just want to get one to ride and have fun they are all about teh same. just take care of it.
i started riding dirt bikes first YZ 80 when i was 13 than moved to quad 400ex than moved back to dirtbikes KX250 2 stroke than back to quads now i ride them both lol I have my YFZ450XC quad and i have a 03 YZ125 i plan to soon be moving to a YZ250F probably next year after i get more seat time on my 125. but i do follow dirtbikes very closely and heres my OPINION from the other dirtbike racers than have switched different manufactures constantly ive found that the Kawasaki KX250F was by far the best 250F out there which could explain y the pro circuit Kawi teams always rules all so in my opinion i would say the Kawasaki is the best by far the reason i will be gettin a Yamaha YZ250F is because i am a Yamaha guy..... as far as skills that carry over there are absolutely none lol although i used to feel very akward on my dirtbike the more i ride it i am getting more comfortable on it and plan to race some MX races this season
lol. yeah, i guess im gonna feel wierd as hell!!! hah.

but, there are SO many cheap 125's around here. but the only thing keeping me from getting one is that there 2 stroke..
well the 250f are suppose to b easier to ride due to the 125s having such a snappy powerband that kicks in.. i love the 2 strokes though but i really just want a 4 stoke cause i dont have 2 premix gas and i like thumpers better lol

honestly if i didnt wanna race mx on my dirtbike i would just keep my 125 another reason y i am wanting a 250f lol
I started to get a 09 crf250r , but they had a 2007 crf450r new still on the floor, which I got a better deal on. Its a huge differance between the two, quad and bikes. I feel like Im getting a better feel for the bike. still kinda huge feeling. I cant imagine why someone would need all that power of a 450 bike. at the time I thought 450 quad and bikes , only differance is weight differance , not so , that bike will flat out screem. and I havent pushed it yet. the crf250r are pretty wild looking with the dual exhaust comming out the back, really a 250 is all you need.
I mainly ride my 450F so I actually went the other way. I still feel a little awkward getting on a quad RIGHT after the bike. And I disagree I would rather have my 450 on a track than a 250 lol. But thats me. Nothing is the same. Just remember beginner stuff. Knees on the tank always keep the bike under you, don't die, and practice. I personally think whoops are the same. But some of my track buddies say I ride a quad like a db on the whoops. Whatever that means

Why do you want a 250F. Are you gonna ride anywhere else besides track. Cause if I was a track junkie I would buy a 250 poker. But that's probably because that's what I learned on
I bought a 07 crf70 to try and see if I would like dirtbikes better and I dont even feel comfortable on the 70 AT ALL. I dont see how those guys go flying 70mph through ruts without the ass end kicking out or losing ballance then hit a 100 foot triple... I just dont get it, I feel like I'm going to fall 24/7 every second I'm on my bike. The only time I feel comfortable is going down a flat peice of land perfectly ballanced...
it's ok. I barely dare to hit the 90ft table at the track on the quad.

well, i dont mean to sound like a w00ter, but i heard that the 450 dirtbikes are CRAZY. and this is gonna be my 1st dirt bike. but there are SO MANY good deals on 450's!!!

i guess i could take the bike with the same attitude as i did with my 450 quad.. just take it nice and easy till you get used to it.

idk.

what do u all think?? 450F? or 250F?
and also, im not just gonna be on tracks, im gonna be doing some trails, hills, thats why i want a 4 stroke.. a jack of all trades. lol. but i dont want a "trail" bike. lol.
im 5'6' 120 and i feel more comfortable on my friends 450 then i did on his 250. i like power when i need it, even though is is overkill most the time.
personal opinion as far as trails the 2 strokes rule all out of all the 450s at the ironman pro gncc dirt bikes a 250 2stroke ruled all lol..... the 450 in my opinion is WAY 2 much bike for a first dirtbike i went from my 80 to a 250 2 stroke and wish i would have had my 125 for a stepping stone cause it was way 2 much for me now if i get on a 250 2 stroke i wouldnt feel 2 bad but again i started on dirtbikes and currently own the 125 so i like to have that stepping stone just my opinion good luck on your choice man
Well, the reason i dont want a 2 stroke is well, they blow up like every few monthes dont they??
if you rev them way 2 high ya they will lol but unless u do that they last just fine but im not sayn get a 2 stroke man cause i have one and i want a 4 stroke im just sayn if i were u and its ur first bike i would say get a 250F over the 450F cause i kno dude who ride dirtbikes every weekend and they think the 450F is 2 much bike thats y their on the 250fs and there fast on them but again theres a comfort level so i could b wrong and u may b more comfortable on a 450 but just startn out i say 250f is my opinion
well..

i ride trails with lots of steep long hills. but there are a TON of dirtbike tracks around here.. so 2 stroke or 4 stroke? 2 stroke is WAY cheaper.. ( a 2004,CR 125, for 1200 bucks!!)

idk.

any opionins? i'd probally be riding this every other day for a good while.. would 2 stroke last me?
i would say go 4 stroke i think you would b more comfortable i see you live in ohio if you live close to dayton get ahold of me ill let you ride my yz125 so u can feel what the 125 feels like lol and you are right 125s r cheap if i sell mine it would b for 1000 and it has a fresh topend so the 125s will go cheap
if you have the money, def go 4 stroke. almost everything is better about them... wait. it is everything.
