STAFFORD, N.J. -- A teenager trying to cross the Garden State Parkway on an all-terrain vehicle was killed this weekend when it collided with a car.
The 15-year-old Stafford boy, whose name was not released, entered the roadway from a dirt trail around 1:45 p.m. Sunday, state police said. He was then struck near milepost 66.5 in Ocean County by a southbound car driven by Rick Oppenheim, 55, of Old Bridge Township.
The impact sent the teen onto the shoulder of the roadway, and he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. Oppenheim was not injured in the accident, which caused extensive traffic delays in the area .
No charges have been filed in the accident, which remains under investigation.
