Im picking up my new 2021 YFZ 450r se next week and am wondering what are some must have mods? I got the HMF full exhaust, Vortex ecu, FCI intake and some nerf bars. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Personally, I would do suspension, stabilizer... and possibly a stem with flex bars or a precision clamp before anything else. If you are comfortable you will go faster and have more control.
Pipe fci vortex steering damper 38 motorsport oil breather and ais delete. Also 8inch bead lock rr rims and good tyres all round would be a good choice. stockers wouldnt be the best
yes get rid of the stock slipper clutch. Swap it out with the 09-13 basket and pressure plate and all related items. Dont delay on doing this. Its a ticking time-bomb.
I've swapped to the '09 clutch basket on my 2020. Haven't however done the "pressure plate and all related items". Is that truly necessary because it's the first I'm hearing about it?
Yeah that's the 09 to 13 setup with cushions. The 14 and on have springs. You can see the 3 rivets you have to grind to get the gear off then you bolt it to the hinson.
Understood, my YFZ450R is a 2019 but I went the full 09 conversion, basket all the way out to the cover and scrapped the entire slipper clutch 3 bolt setup. The basket (and Hinson’s full 09 style clutch setup) I converted to is the one I posted and where I came from is the slipper clutch you show

The 14 and up hinson get rid of the Slipper as well. Unless you get the btl. The only difference I see is rubber cushion vs springs for the primary gear. Don't think you would even notice a difference to be honest. Just preference.
Yeah there not exactly what you think of rivets but it's the same concept. Like 1/2 steel rolled over. If it start to loosen your screwed. So best to do that before you break alot of stuff.
Ordered the Hinson clutch kit, steering stabilizer, flex bars and AIS delete. Will upload photos once it’s all put together. Thanks a lot for everyone’s help!
The black and white is pretty sharp!! Time to take it all apart or are you going to run it stock for now?
I’ve still got my 2020 sitting in the garage with zero hours on it. After all the time and money I’ve put into it, I may just never ride it. Just use it as a show piece in the basement / mancave.
The H316-B-0901 basket itself is $599.99. If you were to purchase a complete kit, it would cost $1439.99. This includes the basket (with gear), inner hub, pressure plate, plates/springs, and cover.
Has anyone used the 09 primary gear with the rekluse radius cx auto clutch? Need to know if I need to buy a Hinson clutch basket to throw in the Rekluse or if Rekluse made a clutch basket that the 09 primary with fit into?
Unfortunately no, my throttle is still sitting on the shelf waiting to get installed. Life has kinda gotten in the way of riding as of late. Plus the Midwest Spring weather has been pretty terrible on days I could’ve went out. Hoping in the next couple weeks I can get it installed and out for a ride. Will keep you posted
What length heat shield did you get? I was thinking 5" but I'm worried it wont clear the anti-reversion "bubble" on my Rossier R4. Anybody have the heat shield on the Rossier anti-reversion head pipe? If not I guess I'll be the guinea pig and find out.
Nice man! I ordered my stabilizer a few days ago. Will be here soon. Just waiting on that and the ecu mount and everything will be ready for install.
I might of left some parts out but here it is:
