I have a friend who I have converted over to the "blue" side :icon_biggrin: and just bought a new 450. I have owned my '04 model for a while but when I first got it there were a few small issues that I discovered need attention fairly quick such as JETTING. I found out that they are factory a tad bit lean and could use a little attention right out of the box. But there is 5 years of change since then and my question is this:

IS THERE ANYTHING HE NEEDS OR SHOULD DO FAIRLY SOON? Jetting,Mods,Bolts to tighten, wires, ETC. Again Ive looked around here and there for him but from the past I have found here to be the best place to get info. Thanks for any help or info fellas!

Is it the 450 or the 450r?
Yamaha 450. Sorry bout that.
ok just wanted to make sure, I don't think the design differs that greatly from the 08's. So i'd look to see if there's any common problems with those.
they are still jetting lean from the factory, if the bike has a bog, (most do) zip tie mod, and leak jet, adjust other jetting, adjust the suspension. and hold on.
after breakin go over every bolt and re-torque it. And check and adjust valves, every 20-30 hours.
THanks for the info everybody. So all in all are the '09 and '04 very similiar with the exception of some of the specs. The reason Im asking is I have an extra service manual that I let him have. Are most of the procedures and such the same outside of some of the parts dont interchange?

And also, is the CAM MOD still doable on the '09's or was that the first few years only?

Again thanks alot for the info so far and it does have some of the bog that most have and the jetting is already taking place!

Still cam mod.... All years
Thanks for the help everybody so I will let him know whats up. We will finish up some jetting and do the ziptie mod then I will see if he is up for the cam mod while we are at it. And of course we will re-check everything including valves after a little time gets put into it.

Also does anybody know about the service manuals being pretty well the same?
