07 Won't Start

696 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Joester
It started a couple weeks ago and ran for about 5 minutes and shut off. The next day I had a puddle of yellow looking gas underneath it. The gas smelled kind of bad so I drained the gas and put fresh 93 in and still won't crank. It tried to start when I sprayed starter fluid thru the intake but never did. Any one have any ideas where to start?

As Sidewinder said and make sure the Gas is on, replace spark plug. Carb might need a cleaning.

Did you drain the carb?[/b]

Gas is on. Is it possible to change the plug w/o pulling the tank off? Should I pull the carb off or just pull the bowl and jets and clean with cleaner?

No, you will need to pull the tank off. Thats no big deal. You could start by pulling the bowl and go from there. Do you know if it is getting fuel ? Spark ?

It's getting fuel since the incoming fuel line was full as well as the bowl. As for the spark, I haven't pulled the plug yet. I'll do that this evening.
Jets gunked up...
This may not work in your situation but when my kawasaki wouldn't start after sitting for a while I would just rock it side to side pretty hard and it would fire right up! I have cleaned the plug and ran the battery dead a few times trying to start but as soon as I started shaking the quad I have had no problems starting. Might as well try it?
haha, yeah i guess it sloshes the fuel around and kinda cleans the jets. who knows, might as well go for it.
