2010 yfz450x bill balance edition loosing oil but no leaks!!?!?

So I just bought this yfz450x with low hours and his mechanic even verified it had low hours. So to start off I didn’t even check the oil when I bought it ( dumb I know.. ) I trusted him when he said he changed the oil and battery. Well after a weekend of riding it pretty hard I checked the oil and there was nothing!! Maybe a drop on the very very bottom of the dip stick! But it never leaked, burned the oil or anything! And I topped it out multiple times racing a scrambler 1000.. I’m just stumped on where the oil is going. I filled it up and rode it today and it already went from full to M mark on the dip stick. Anyone have any ideas what is causing this? I looked in my air box and the bottom had oil in it but not 1.5 quarts.. or enough for the dip stick to register half full. Anyone who knows /has had this problem please help me before I take it back to the mechanic to run a diagnostic test for 100 bucks... please and thank you any input is better than. None. I am new to the yfz and I’m hoping I didn’t get a quad with bad rings.. it doesn’t smoke or anything..

Drain and start over.
An oil consumption test can easily be done by you.
Drain both plugs, fill with the correct amount, and clean out the airbox.
Dont go by the stick. Fill with a measured amount. That's your base.
Go out and ride. Normal. Dont change your riding style.
Drain and measure this amount. Obviously you need to account for some residual. But your looking for a drastic loss. This will give you and idea of any problems.

You know how to correctly check the oil right? It is not like a car checking the oil level. Just saying...

Yeah I have the manual to the bike, supposed to let it sit awhile and then check by unscrewing the dip stick and then placing it on the threads without screwing it in.

If that’s how your supposed to check it? I hope I wasn’t adding too much oil.. one of the mechanics I called said I probably need to reroute that box with an ltr one I can’t remember what it’s called. Supposedly it can cause blow by the stock one does. Idk if that’s true or not. Also I added oil immediately after I noticed it was empty. and when I drained it it had the same amount I added but it was pitch black and it just sat didn’t ride it or anything. But I’ll ride it today and drain the oil again. But I don’t have enough oil to fill it up as I already went through my 3 quarts changing it and adding it.

When you are draining are you draining both the engine and the oil tank? Yes, it would be much better to do either an LTR breather box or one of the aftermarket ones. It will ensure all the extra oil goes back in the base instead of your airbox.

The yfz I bought doesn’t have an oil box. It just fills into the engine case. If that makes sense. It’s an R not a just a regular yfz450. I’ll take a pic of my manual an show ya if it helps explain better. And yes I drained both front and rear oil plugs. The rear put out dark oil and the front put out the new oil

Let it warm up and then let it idle for 2 minutes dont touch throttle. Level floor of course.

Kill engine. Wait 2 minutes. Remove dipstick, wipe and then insert without screwing and read level and thats your true level.

I will do that, and if it reads lower do you have any idea of what would cause it to loose oil even tho it doesn’t burn it or leak it??

If itís not burning or leaking
1. The little man that is inside your engine that keeps everything spinning must be thirsty.

Ensure the oil is not inside your coolant/overflow bottle/radiator.

I let it warm up for 10 mins an idle and sit for 5. And the oil is still full. Maybe I’m just scaring myself? And the breather box needs to Be rerouted..

Just drain oil from the 3 holes and start again. Add 1.5 quarts. And take it from there.
(Under shifter in towards engine, near coolant reservoir 45 degree angle plug, oil filter cover)

So I did that and rode today, and it’s below full.. right at the M mark. I think it’s best I take it to the mechanic.. I failed to mention it’s a big bore cylinder works. Vertex piston (478cc) dyno’d with a power commander, stock cams. And I’ve heard big bore cylinders have to have the top end replaced every 25 hrs to keep the cylinder from wearing out ( ovaling out). At least that’s what I had to do on my 08 kfx450r when I replaced the cylinder with a Athena kit. So maybe I need a new top end and the cylinder is ovaling out slowly and is burning the oil at a noticeable rate only when checking it. I also was riding for only 2 hrs if that

Stop going by marks on the stick. Measure. Why pay 300 dollars for a test you can do for 20?
