June 2004...Birth of an MX Monster

I purchased this quad in June of 2003. The first time I rode the quad on the track I broke my ankle.

I spent my recovery time starting the modification process. I documented the incremental alterations in my " Birth of an MX Monster" posts. Most of you may recognize my quad as one of the first "WHITE" YFZ's to go with a blue graphics kit.

This quad has been used in the developement of products from TC Racing. Many of you (and the pros) with TC racing pipes had your's designed and tested with my quad as the "lab rat".

A month ago I wrecked this beast (again) and did only "superficial" damage. I felt it was time for a metamorphisis. So during the re-build I went with blue plastics and Alba racing graphics as a starting point. I also choose to build the bike up as a sort of "FREERIDE" machine. Those of you that mountain bike may be familiar with this term. It's a hybrid that has qualities that can crossover between the MX track and trail riding.

I'm not sure if I'll hit the track any time soon (due to my injurys) but I know I'll be doing some aggressive trail riding....So I created this sort of in between machine. I kept the 50 inch width. But I changed the tires and gearing. I added aluminum skidplates and left the fenders uncut for trailriding.

I also had to re install the lighting system. I've fried a couple of batteries. YOU DO NEED to run your lights if you CC race or trail ride!!! Check out the pros.
