2003...Where it all started
Well
what can I say, the first Quad of the Month for YFZcentral.
It's an honor to be chosen by my peers for this, and for
that I thank you all.
When
I first heard about the YFZ in late may I sold my Honda's
and decided that this is the bike I wanted. With a total
of four Honda's sold and the rest of my money, I laid down
the cash to purchase this quad. I then picked up the phone
to call my friend Rudy at DFR to place an order for a full
set of new rims and MX style tires (which is all I really
wanted at the time) so we discussed it and after some negotiations
I ended up buying all the parts that are on my bike today.
Funny how we are still in early June and I had already spent
over twelve thousand dollars on a bike I couldn't even ride
until mid July. Needless to say that was the longest month
and a half of my life. July 16th I picked up my YFZ and
immediately started bolting on parts, and stripping off
the stock. About a month later while practicing at PMP motor
sports park in Tucson, AZ I crashed my YFZ really hard.
It completely destroyed the frame, plastics, steering stem,
and radiator. So I could only do one thing
.rebuild
it. I took it to my parents house is San Diego, CA and we
cut the bike apart. For the next month and a half I drove
1000 mile round trip every weekend from where I live in
Arizona to my parents in San Diego and worked on it to rebuild,
and strengthen the frame so hopefully if I did that again
my bike would fair better. By the time I finished with my
rebuild the rest of my parts arrived, and I was able to
put it back together the way you see it now.
I would
really like to thank my dad, and my brother Jason for helping
me tear this bike apart thousands of times to we could get
the frame just right. I know many of you have seen the pictures
of my frame cut in half and know that we replaced quite
a few bars, and added a lot of strength to it. I would also
like to thank my friend Anthony for putting up with me for
every time I said "I can't wait until
.."
cause I know that said that a million times. Lastly I would
like to Thank Rudy at DFR for being such a good sales man,
and mostly an up front and honest guy. It's hard to find
people like him, so I know he will always have my business.
