Had a few races with a couple of trx 450's yesterday.

One has the hrc kit without cams that's been jetted and dyno'd with a few map settings. The other has full hrc kit and a few extras (dyno'd with different maps). One is running brand new stockers and the other is running kt335's

I have dasa and fci.. No box.. 50% left on stock tyres with my own untested custom pattern. I butt dyno'd and jetted. I ended up going smaller jets.. 168/4/48. Smoked both of them by bike lengths.

They asked what I had done to my bike... I said I jetted it.. They excused of engine work. I said.. Well I did cut my fenders... Better aerodynamics.

Yfz450's are damn fast with just pipe and fci

Im hoping that this will be the final fix for my "stalling out" problem. Just looking for some insight here.. maybe someone else had the same problem?

Seems like every time i reach the top of a hill climb and grab the clutch in and let go of the throttle the quad immediately stalls out.. i notice it stalling in most instances when I'm lettin off the throttle real fast.. I'm as dialed in with my jetting as i can get without having a Air/fuel meter on it and I'm just wondering if maybe its my TPS giving me problems.. Either way im at my wits end with this issue :angryfire: .

Thanks in advance for any and all advice. Happy memorial day to everyone too!

Then a few days later my electric isnt working, its wanting to crank over but not enough to turn on, but i am able to push start it no problems. Today i did an oil change, changed the spark plug, and put a new battery in and rode for 15 minutes tonight and after 15 minutes the lights shut off and the bike died completely. I then tried jump starting it and it would turn put as i gave it gas it would bog out, then when i pulled the clutch it the bike completely shut off. any ideas on what could be wrong any bit of help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone.

I'm terrible when it comes to electrical side of the quad, so here is my question.
Was just loading it in the back of the truck. Had to jump start it to get it to run after the winter (it was cranking but wasn't enough to get it to start). I ran it for a while and now when I kill it it won't start and the light won't even come on. I hooked the jumper pack back up, and it lights up and starts right away.

I haven't had the time to check everything yet, work 2nd shift, leave for the dunes right after work. But what could it possibly be? I am guessing a battery disconnect somewhere or a fuse, but I checked the 2 right above the battery and they are fine. I did test the battery as well and there is charge. It just acts like it's not there, when I turn the key.

Just looking for ideas of what to check. Thank you in advance!

Hey guys, wanted to share my project. I lowered my subframe and installed the YFZR fender and seat. The job came out pretty clean. I will post better pics when I get it outside and clean it. This setup is much better in the corners. The R fender flares are back further which provides for more room when leaning in the corners. The seat is much better too.

Ive tried searching through the threads and couldnt find a direct answer so my question is, how exactly do you know you have a bad starter? currently on my 05' the battery is charged to 12.5v (checked with a multimeter) and when i go to turn it over it turns pretty slowly like the battery is almost drained and drops down to about 6.5-7.5v when turning over. After a few turns it doesnt start but the battery still read 12-12.5v sittin there. So basically what are some signs of a bad starter and do you think mine is bad?

I crashed my 450 pretty bad last year and I am looking to get her ripping around again. I hope I am in the right forum if I'm not please direct me. The parts I need are the steering column/shaft, upper and lower A-arms for the right front corner, new shocks on both sides on the front, and a new right front wheel.

My question is, which other model years of yfz have these identical parts? I am wanting to buy as much stuff used as I can. Also what shocks/coilovers would you guys recommend? Also a clutch lever but I think I would be best of buying that new. If anyone has any of these parts for sale I would be happy to hear about it.

Thanks guys!

This last trip to little Sahara ok I blew my head gasket. I read to go ahead and get the head milled just to make sure the surfaces are flat. So went to the local machine shop and asked how much he would charge. He said it would be $50 just for the head or just the cylinder. Does this price seem fair? Is there any alternative to ensuring the surfaces are flat? Should I do the cylinder as well? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I have a 07 yfz 450 and I took to a shop to get it looked at, they said that my crank rod bearings seized up and that I needed a new cylinder, piston, crank assembly. And put a price tag of 1548 to do the total motor rebuild. I am going to do the repair myself. My question is, what should I put in it and where do I buy the parts at. I am leaning toward a wr crank, cp piston and stock 95mm cylinder. I want it to run on pump gas so no higher then 12.5:1 piston. If i could be linked to all of my parts I need that would be great.

Where do I buy all of these parts at?

Links would be helpful, thank you!

I am new to the forum, hope I did everything alright.

Yesterday it was hot and muggy..hotter and more humid than what is average and what I usually ride in. It was around 85 degrees and near 100% humidity. Now..I went riding w my 2 buddies and every time I opened her up WOT she was spitting and bucking. I thought maybe the carb was dirty or something. So I was tinkering Around and while riding I took off my airbox lid. I took it off and she ran like a million bucks and pulled harder than ever. I never knew that hotter and more humid conditions can do that to a bike and require more air. Is that normal?

the rear rotor is the stock Yammy solid rotor.

question...how much help, as far as cooling, will a drilled rotor or wave rotor make.

I think he just rides the brake too much, but not sure. I have boiled it once riding his quad and I've never boiled my quad (Honda).

anyway...what'd ya think?

oh yea...2005 YFZ 450

So i just put my engine back together, new stock stroke hot rods crank and a JE 12.5-1 piston, stock cams. Im pretty positive i have the cams set correctly and im getting fuel and a steady spark but it will not pop off. Ive pulled the plug and im getting plenty of pressure coming out of the spark plug hole(dont have the right adapters for my compression tester). I set my top ring at .016" and my second at .019" so i dont see myself being at a loss of compression. Any advise would be greatly appreciated, these are a completely different world from building race car engines:/

Ok, trail of tears starts here. I bought my '04 450 all it needed was a head gasket-replaced that he told me it would run fine then when it got hot it just dies. Then I started having idle issues, bog issues 1/20-WOT, headlight issues and found the cooling fan does not kick on so the guy before me hard wired it straight to the battery.

I have changed the jetting to a 45 pilot and 168 main, I have a K&N filter no lid and GYTR pipe elevation is 1,243 ft.The carb has been cleaned 100x every port and hole. I did the zip tie mod. The bog and idle issue seemed to get better with the new jetting the bog went from 1/2 throttle to just 3/4 to wide open. I have the air screw turned all the way in and the fuel screw is 2.75 turns out. I replaced the water pump seal that fixed the leak there. New head gasket installed and timing is set to one tooth clock wise from OEM spec. Re-seated all connections for the wiring harness battery is fully charged. I cleaned the air filter all new fluids in it (high octane gas,50/50 anti freeze, ATV oil new oil filter). Also when I was putting the top end back together the ign. coil was rattling around so I put some silicone around the lip of it where it seats to the engine and it seems secure but still suspect.

The problems i'm still having- Went and rode it finally and it ran like a champ for about 15 min then started to bog and die anything past 1/4 throttle until it started to bog with any gas then I could not get it started and wound up pushing it 2 miles back to the trailer. I also noticed that when I would give it any gas when I was riding it would rev but it would sputter and cut out a bit then when I down shifted it would back fire. The fan is hooked back up to the sensors but will not turn on I took the sensors out of the radiator and cleaned them off since they were pretty dirty (I had it hard wired when I was riding to be safe). The lights only the left side works and comes on when it revs high. I've read and read all the forums on these and it seems to almost be an electrical problem vs. a carb problem. Any thoughts on all of this?

head problems

Hey everyone, long story...wanted to get ****ed by a dealer because i didnt have time to work on the 450 so anyway, went up there, got ****ed on...

Hey everyone, long story...wanted to get ****ed by a dealer because i didnt have time to work on the 450 so anyway, went up there, got ****ed on price, started a huge issue with the company, now i have this.

I do most my work myself and i tore down my head because my baby wasnt starting right or when it did it ran funny. Thanks to the "repair work" from the dealer that is. Remember this os about 1hr of run time.. piston picture is pointless sorry but the powder is also more white.

So i got it down and these are the problems....

1st. It overheats. Put coolant in it and everything but it burns it off (so i believe) because it doesnt leak anywhere. I filled up the coolant a couple times so its definitely burning imo. The funny part is the fan doesnt come on and my temp stays right around 268 - 270 which is ****ing hot.

2nd. There is white powder (coolant i believe) everywhere. When i looked in my exhaust port all i saw was white shit. Pisses me off.. but anyway. in the pictures it looks darker but trust me, its more white.

I was going to do the valve seals and see if that made any difference because thats what they said it was and after my rebuild i build everything over...except the seals. But it ran 100% before it so i dont know why theyd be bad. Any advice would help.

ALSO, on a deadline so PLEASE HURRY!!!! i am planning on doing the seals in the next half hour so i need input asap. THANKS!

thanks again community,
Aaron

UPDATE

- after removing my valves and what not, i noticed that the burnt coolant residue is only (mainly) on one side of the exhaust valves. The other side has a little bit but most likely carried over. and the intake side has nothing. What does this mean?
