Exclamation Community Roundtable Discussions

Hey peoples...

I saw the thread about yfztech.com being down and I read through it. Two things struck me as I tried to analyze what was being said in it.

#1. Some have an oddly high interest in all things "gay".
#2. Some seem to prefer being on Tech than they do here.

Since I'm merely the forum administrator, and have had no real relationship with the members here, I come to you for your input.

My question is, how do we get the members here to actually care about this forum again? We have a vast amount of knowledge - almost 890,000 posts - 8 times more than tech - yet they treat this site as a "playground".

With 2012 right around the corner, I thought I'd open up a dialogue with everyone to get some ideas on community improvements we can make in the New Year.

Given that most, if not all, of you have been here for way way longer than I have, I'd appreciate it if you can voice your opinions or ideas on how we can improve the community. We have a few ideas of our own that we'll be rolling out over the next couple of months, but I would love to hear from you guys that are on the "front lines" so-to-speak.

(PS I had originally posted this in the Mods Only section, but after 9 days, it never got any response. So I've moved it to be viewed by everyone.)

I come here to learn about how to improve and fix my yfzs. Tech I think is more of a brotherhood, less traffic so people get to know each other better. Tech has more info about how to go fast where here it's people from every niche of the sport. IMO both forums are great and provide you with the help you need and have caring members. I think the shoutbox on tech gives members a way to instantly chat and that creates a stronger bond and a way to get instant responses for your questions. These statements are what I have observed in my short time as a member on both forums.

P.S. The tech members are gay and funny as hell so there is some comic relief.

There is a ton of info on this site. This is site was my home.

I still like helping people out and joking around selling cam mods here. Lets get a few more good sponsors on this site, half of the current sponsors don't even post anymore. Lets bring back quad of the month and maybe have a sponsor give out a prize, heck even a shirt. Mixxer doesnt help things and I think 80's of the crap here gets started by him. Tech banned him years ago and so did many other sites. Get a few more mods on this place to delete the which pipe is best threads and encourage more people to use the search button. Maybe change the layout and get rid of like ttm who has been out of business. This site needs an update!

i agree, with what was said. a shout box would be a big help.

the main difference i see between tech and central is that tech is more for the motor end of the sport as far as making power and making the bikes light. central is more of a general all around sight. it is more MX/trail bikes looking at more of bolt on mods.

the tech guys are great comic relief

I am new here and love the site and the fact that there is not an abundance of negative posts like most sites (I have not been on tech so I am not talking about that site) it seems easy to ask an opinion question and either get positive feedback or nice negative feedback I haven't noticed much of the your a idiot why would you do that responses alot of forums seem to get...I am new to 450s and have asked questions that I should/could have found already posted that being said I wish the search option was a little better I have a easier time using google to find things on this site than I do using the sites search...quad of the month sounds like a great idea to bring back I have looked few some of the old ones and like the idea..

ive been on this site for a few years now, it used to be alot better back then.
i used to come on the site nearly everyday to look out peoples bikes in qotm and browse the forums. now there is no more q or potm etc and when you search the forums its seems very much the same thing. there is alot of new members asking about whats the cam mod, whats the best this, whats the best that? there is reems and reems of infomation on this site and if you use the search function its very easy to find, yes it takes longer but at least your not making this site worse for other memberd by filling all the forums with the same crap everyday

tech is more for duners and drag racers that seem to focus on the engine side of things were as central is just anything to do with the yfz and any type of riding

I started out here when I first go my 450 and found out alot of the beginner info I needed. After awhile all of the repetitive threads of how do I get rid of decel pop, and why is my header glowing red got a little old, then I stumbled upon Tech where you can get much more information on the pure power and straightline performace aspect..... Which is why my quad is now a bare frame haha.

I have always been a fan of the smaller forums tho where you can talk to the same guys over and over for advice, ideas, and opnions. You kind of lose that once a forum becomes too large

A shout box will bring some unity over the forums. Its one thing to get a response in a thread, but its much more benificial if you have a live conversation. Its much easier to ask quick questions as well as talk things through.

A chatbox for a forum this size would require a lot of bandwidth to have it functioning at a decent pace. And chatboxes tend to reduce the amount of threads at the same time, but can lead to more drama. I enjoy using chatboxes on some other sites but taking raptorforum as an example, there's a great deal of information that doesn't disappear the next day when the chat's history log is full of misc bs.

What censorship? Language? Other types? I've only been here for 3 months - please cite some examples if you can. Thanks.

With January a few days away, I will be auditing our Site Sponsors list and see who still has active accounts.

All of our sites were due for an upgrade to VB4, however we are aware of performance issues with VB4 so that's been put on hold. I have no information regarding when we will resume. With that said, I can put a request in for a shoutbox but can not offer any guarantees.

QOTM can be brought back if the Mods are willing to put the time in for it, and if sponsors would want to volunteer to get involved. Please keep in mind however that we cannot negotiate anything related to their advertising fees in return for QOTM involvement.

Why does there have to be a prize for the winner? If you can get free give aways then great, but otherwise a free tshirt isn't going to make or break the winner! haha. as far as the censorship goes, I had a post deleted because I posted a good deal on some hipers and the moderator deleted it saying that I couldn't post the guys information becuase Hiper is a site sponsor. I've seen this done a few times. I dont see what the big deal is. If you can get parts cheaper from someone else, why not? I'm not going to load sombodys pockets sticktly because they are a site sponsor, thats just silly.

so far i have learned a great deal from this site and the members are very helpful and patient with my noob questions. so far i have gone from a few bolt in mods to a bike that will make mid 50hp. lol. i love the for sale section and have purchased a whole new suspension system and saving lots of money. i have also joined tech but am more of a lurker there as i dont think its the type of forum for beginners. this site has tons of beginners like me and its nice to see that there is lots of different types of riders mx, gncc, duners, draggers etc. personally i dont think that a live chat is necessary. i could see that it would get dragged down with a lot of bs and drama.

I've managed several Ride of the Month contests on the auto forums I admin, and the general consensus is that people are for more willing to get involved if there is a prize to win.

I can start a QOTM contest for January nevertheless...the winner would simply get recognition in the time being. Perhaps I can talk to our Creative Department to come up with a QOTM Winner badge or something for their profile or signature.

i would love to see a qotm contest, then we would really get to see some nice work thats out there. yfzcentral should get some shirts and stickers made up that would highlight some of the sponsors logos. you could then sell them and give some away for contests.
