Rick's Motorsport Electrics, Inc 2004-2007 YFZ450 Charging Kit Part #12-8069

Retail $159.95

Rick's Motorsport Electrics, Inc has solved all your YFZ electrical issues! Rick's introduces a new charging kit for the YFZ450 that can run with or without lights. The new kit will fit the 2004-2007 models and will double the stock wattage, with an output of 140 watts of power.

Included in the charging system replacment kit are: a custom-designed, high output stator and heavy duty modified regulator. These two components are direct plug-in, bolt-on pieces and come with a one year warranty.

According to Rick's Motorsport Electrics Inc, "Our new design uses a full wave current, allowing all of the electrical power from the stator to be used in the charging system. Our kit will eliminate all of the headaches that come with the O.E. charging system on these YFZ's."

I am in need of one of these kits. I checked out the website, but it only offers one shipping option. I need this as soon as possible to avoid missing any races.

I didn't realize there was a problem. What exactly is the problem anyway? I always run with my lights on and have never had an issue, nor have any of my 3 friend's YFZs.

it has been a very common issue with battery charging problems with the YFZ.

So I'll ask again, what exactly is the problem you speak of? Batteries going dead because the quad can't charge them fast enough? Stator burns up because of excessive load? ???????????

I got the stator installed Friday and it worked great. Went to race Sunday and I only made it half a lap before it quit running. Looking at all of my wiring today, and everything is good. Push started it and it idles fine, but if i give it any gas, it spits and spudders. Let it sit untill the fan came on, and the engine died right away. Basicaly what im saying is the stator is already bad. Only thing is that i dont have the boxes it came in, and i never got a reciept from you. What should i do??

seems odd....
if it is the stator, you would need to contact Ricks Motorsport Electrics, they are the manufacturer of the product, and would handle any warranty issues.

Knaffe, others

Here are some known problem/issues:

04-05 They only charge the batteries when the lights are on, you dont get much of a charge because the lights are always on.

06-and newer got this issue fixed. But still have a low wattage output from the OEM stator.

04-07 (I'm not sure about the 08 and newer) run AC power through the stator. And I believe the lights run on AC as well. If you want to Run HID's its not a simple plug and go, because you'll get flickering.

Both the Trail Tech and Rick's are much better. Much higher Wattage output and they run straight DC current. This charges the battery much better, and allows you to run HID's.

I have had the Trail Tech on my 04 YFZ and was so much better.

I can get either the Trail Tech or Rick's at a great price. Hope that helps!

I had a problem a few years back with one of these HO stators and sent the stator and reg. back and they tested it and told me everything was good and tryed to blame the problem on my 06 yfz. Found the problem was there regulator was wired wrong. If you put the plugs side by side(the stock and the ricks) they have the same color wires but did not go to the same corners of the plug as stock regulator. Also before I found the problem my battery was dead in 30 minutes like yours. Have not had a problem since and my hid's work great. If you send it back let them know beacuse I never called them back to let them know what the problem was and to get my $20 to test it+shipping back and wished i did. Just seen your problem was like 4 years ago but hope you got it fixed.
