what is called a normally closed and normally open... because of work im used to thinking of something an normally open or normally closed in a de-energyzed state. meaning that the kill switch would be normally closed or normally open with out the teather attached (if you were to fall off).

not sure if this applies here or if you refer to normally closed as in when you are riding.

thanks[/b]
right on...

normally closed means that with the tether in the switch, the circuit is complete and when you pull the cord, it breaks the circuit.

normally open is revers of that.

the pro design, and copies, are normally open.

Does anyone still want pictures of this install? I've got a Pro Armor kill switch I'm going to be installing tomorrow night.

are you guys tapping into the wires or cutting them and connecting only to the wires coming from the motor

Depends on how you're installing it.. Describe how you're installing it.

That method would be best to just tap into them. No need to cut them just to re-solder them back together..

I just finished installing my Pro-Design switch on mine this way, although with a Dyna Programable CDI.. Same deal..

I sold my engine and bought a new engine, now I'm trying to hook up my kill switch and for some reason I have a light blue wire tapped into the longer wire which then goes to a ground. And I think I had the shorter wire hooked up to the white wire. I'm trying to figure out where that light blue wire is supposed to go so that I can wire it up the proper way with the white and red wires.

hey guys, i just got a 2009 yfz 450r a few months ago, and now comes time to install the kill switch. i followed a link to this thread and was wondering if this same method will work for the new 2009 450r's or if it is different for the new yfz-r's..
Thanks!

Pro Armor pro series.. i think it is the only one they make? well its the only one i have ever seen either way...
Oh and would you happen to have any pics by the way? It would really help because i have no experience with wiring and i think i can do it myself as long as i can see some pictures, but if i not then i have a friend that can come over to help me out.. either way i will get it done but pics are always nice!

Thanks!

Yes, this method works for the pro armor killswitch. That's the one I have and I installed it the way described in this thread.

yeah i figured it would be the same for the pro armor kill switch, but does it work the same way with the new 2009-2010 YFZ-R models? or is it going to have to be installed differently?

Thanks!

The wire colors may be different. You'd have to look at a wiring diagram.

i have an 09 450r and got a pro design kill switch. im going to assume that is what PD stands for on this forum. my buddies and i tried installing it to the ignition wires at first and that made the kill switch work in the reverse direction. quad had power when the tether was pulled. where do i need to splice these wires into? the directions said the lead wire on the pulse stator. but i have no idea what that is on this quad. im also looking at putting a kick start on it at some point. will that require the kill switch to re-wired differently or does it stay the same? if anyone has a kick start already on their quad, how does it start? is it easy to kick or is it a pain in the ass?
