get a big rubber band and put it on your elbow and hook it on your thumb, then pump your thumb like your pushing the throttle. Helps a lot with thumb fatigue, make sure you exercise your upper legs and arms

Cardio is your friend when it comes to endurance racing. You should balance 3 days of cardio a week, and fill in the off days with riding. You get to choose your style of cardio, whether it is running, P90X or biking, swimming, rowing, etc.

Alot of racing especially XC is being somewhat physically fit, but do not forget alot of it has to do with mental toughness. You have to make yourself push through arm pump or cramping if it happens. Go into a race with the mind set that your going to finish it no matter what.

As far as training lite weight high reps to help build muscle endurance. Get a mountain bike, or road bike as stated previously to help with your cardio. Also like stated above RIDE, RIDE, RIDE, RIDE, and RIDE some more. There is no substitiue for seat time.

Also make sure to load up on fruit, and veggies the entire week before a race. Up you water intake also to the point you drink somewhere around a gallon a water a day. I also strongly recommend a protien bar 30 minutes to an hour before the race. Also take you a potassium pill or all joking aside a midol will help you keep from cramping.

Hope this helps.

try a 1in wooden dowel (broomstick) and tie some twine 2/3 your height to it and wrap it like a yoyo then tie the other end of twine to a 10<20lb weight and hold it like handle bars while twisting it thus lifting/ lowering the weight combined with the squeezey things that look like pliers with a spring lol it helps alot for fighting the dreaded arm pump and you can do it anywhere but nothin will help you like riding fast over rough terrain. Thats just my 2 cents man.

Best thing I ever use to use for arm pump which I forgot to mention is a gyro ball. You can find them on Ebay with what looks like a grip attached to them. I use to always use it when I was driving somewhere, or even sitting around the house.

You'll be surprise how much the suggestion above decreases arm pump and increases endurance. You can practice as much as you want but if your body isn't healthy your not going to be consistent throughout the season. I'd also suggest avoiding all energy drinks.

you should masturbate twice a week to increase mental focus and concentration power. Try to picture a girl you know you could never get....and make it happen. Try to switch hands every once in a while but right hand mostly, this will not only increase your forearm strength but also grip; but not so hard as to incur chaffing. You should also do this while riding to maximize multi tasking and 1/2 hr before riding to relax. Remember...a relaxed muscle is a FAST muscle. as far as cardio going back and forth to the kitchen for a beer 20x a day will help now go get 'em!

This helped me a LOT after breaking 4 bones in my right wrist. You can change out the spring to start out easier to push and work up to stiffer springs.

NICE! I have a setup to get my thumb used to long motos as well, but mine isn't portable like that. Mine is very crude, but it works, and I can add and remove weight when needed. I removed the grip because my new lock ons will be here next week and my old lockons will be put on here.

Ive been reading about hit training, seems to work. Do 1 min as hard as you can then rest for 2, and repeat as long as you can. Ive been doing it and think its the best cardio Ive done so far. You can use a rower, treadmill, or a bike. I kind of mix them all. Also lots of reps on weights. Most the time i do 20 and dont increase weight and the 3rd set i will go till i cant do anymore. I also move from one lift to another like doing 3 diff lifts one right after the other with no breaks then go back to the first. Alot of Mx racers used Cytomax in the early 2000's not sure if they still are or not but i like it.

WOW, the lengths some people go to. lol. I agree with Brandon. RIDE RIDE RIDE! Mix in some cardio, biking, and light lifting. I am lucky enough to be 5 minutes from a track that is in the PA state series, and 5 minutes from my buddys track. As the day goes on i actually feel better and better. Not only does it help with endurance to get out and pound lap after lap. But you get better and better at the same time. When i raced full time years back i would do 3-4 days a week lifting in the off season. Helps ALOT come race time with the arm pump and fatigue with throwing the bike around. Good luck with the racing. XC is alot of fun and a good time. Racing is a great place to meet some really good freinds also. I always said race day is like a big family get together. Don't ever be afraid to ask someone for help. Everyone is always ready. Also, why wait till next year? The season just started. Even if you only go run a race or two. Go try your best and get the feel of it. Then you'll know where you need improvment. We always say. Anyone can go run a 20 minute moto. (not picking on you mx guys, i raced mx most of my life. lol) But even if you don't place, just finishing a 2 hour race getting beat up the whole time, is something to be proud of.
