Default Rookie questions about 05 yfz

first off, 3 months ago my battery went bad and i removed it. now 3 months later i finally got around to buying a new battery and i forgot how to install it properly. i know main neg and pos go to the battery but there is a third red wire that reaches both sides of the battery and like an idiot i forgot which connection it goes to. also on the front of the quad there is a red switch under the fender, what purpose does this switch serve? thanks for any input!

The wire goes to the positive side. That switch probably is grounded out somewhere else. Question is, why do you have a switch. Does it bypass your fan? Extra lights? If you dont use it, you wont need to hook that wire up. Trace it back and take it off completely.

i bought the quad with no head or brake lights. the only extra thing is a tether kill switch, but i dont think it deals with it. the i will have to pull the plastics off to trace it up and see. then go from there. thanks guys

well, that definitely ain't factory stuff. It's a wire going to the battery with a switch....could be for fan, headlights, or maybe a "boat" switch. question is why would you put in a switch you can't reach from the seat if it were for the fan? Headlight switch makes no sense.....and if it were a kill switch why put it where someone can see it?? I'm curious what that is?

I'm going to bet that it's a ground for the killswitch. What you really need to do is trace it back and see where it goes, and use a mulitmeter.
