Default 04 tranny problems

im new here and not sure if im doing this correctly any tips would be helpful
I have a 04 yfz it would sometimes say its in neutral but it wouldnt be, it wouldnt roll even with the clutch in doesnt feel like it moves in and out of gears if i gave it a little gas and let out the clutch it would just die, i now have the motor out of the quad and was just wondering what your tips were for further actions i havent worked on the motor or any of the quad much just want to do it myself or mostly by myself because mechanics are expensive walk through to seperate the tranny from motor would be great
