I think yamaha quoted me $7249 before all of the dealer fees. Total it ended up to someting like $7800.

I dont see why it wont ruin an atermarket axle either unless the stocker is just really weak?

Some one at bluetraxx said (their opinion) was that the cast swingarm was formed crockett and it is miss aligning the chain and sprocket, forcing it to line up with the motor. That would put enough stress on the splines to break.

Just got back from local dealer ,and they want me to bring the bike in for pictures to send to yamaha!! How many pictures of broken axle splines do they need befor they admit they have a problem. He also looked the parts up on the computer, and yamaha has them backordered, so this is def. a wide spread issue.hope they don,t put the 05 rear end on my 06 and call it fixed.

its hard to tell if they are back ordered because of this new quad and not many parts out/made yet.

I think they, yamaha, does not have a surplus of parts yet, because of the demand for the new 450. As soon as the demand for the quad dies down some, then they should have "extra" parts available. Now if it is a casting problem with the swing arm, I want the "new" cast swing arm. Not one from this miss matched mold.

Yours too is starting. I'd prepare to take it to the dealer.

Just dropped off my YFZ at the dealer. Of course they said "we've never seen this before, but we will take care of it." I'm wondering if Yamaha is telling them not to say anything abou this problem to the public. Is this possible?

I think that yamaha is telling the that. Mine has been at the dealership since wensday. Thursday morning yamaha got e-mailed the photos that the dealer took, and they talk for a bit. So how can they from now on say "we have never seen or heard of this before"???????????

My fear is that they are going to replace my axle and it's going to happen again then my warranty will be up and I will be out of luck. I heard there are some that are on their 2nd and 3rd axles.

I wonder if this could be fixed with an aftermarket swing arm.

If an aftermarket swingarm fixes the problem, I hope yamaha is going to be buying us some new ones.

That is my thought also. What if the damn thing breaks on the track in a race. If I get injured because they "never seen that before" crap, I'm going to find one hell of an attorney

I just checked mine and the teeth under the sprocket and brake jubs are fine just the 1/4 inch teeth on the outside of the retaining ring are chipped. As long as the teeth under the hubs are ok I think it wont hurt to much since the ring sits in a groove deeper than the teeth and is captured by the sprocket hub. I noticed that all the after market axles that use the captured ring design have the axle flared out in front of the rings instead of teeth on the outside. I think its a bad design but not a weak axle just too shallow of a cut in a side loading area. I have ran mine maybe three tanks and find this and along with the loose bolts under the starter cover makes me wonder what else they might have done poorly.
