My splines are broken as well. As long as the splines are broken just on the outside, I dont see any problem with it. I know for a fact that Yamaha has to know about this issue by now and would recall the axels if they thought it could be a safety problem. With as many people riding 06's as there are including the 80% of 06 yfz owners that dont even notice the broken splines and not one accident or complete failure of the inside splines, I dont see this as being a problem.

My splines are also going... As well as my crank went after only 10 hrs on it. That was a fun one to get fixed paying half Yamaha is getting bad reviews lately I don't know what it is.

this is the first ive heard of this myself.

i didnt read all 15 pages but is there a prob with the 07's ?

my 06 never had this issue, the axle was replaced with a durablue as soon as it got home from the dealer.

so, i have a brand new 06 axle with absolutly no rides on it in my garage, if anyone is interested. lol.

My 06' has the same problem having the axle apart shows that the beyond the lock ring is where the damage is the spline on the inside of the sprocket hub is fine and the two are actually split apart by the lock ring so the only damage that i can see being caused by this is eventually all of the outside spline breaking off and the sprocket hub actually sliding free

Make sure everything is tightened down the axle nuts. They can loosen after riding for a period of time. If there is any play it will grind down or even break the splines off...

Always keep the axle nut tight...

FYI - If anyone is looking for a stock axle I have one off my 07...

aswell as all of you after reading this i went out too look at mine and it looks prefectly fine, ive probly put 70 hours on it sence i got it all sand dunes with paddles, mabe 15 of them around the woods and trails. anyways there has to be a after market sprocket hub stronger than stock .seems like that would solve your problem if you got a stronger aftermarket hub along with a aftermarket axle. if it ever happins to mine after reading this im gonna ditch the whole stock setup hubs, axle and carrier hopefully il never have a problem though. after being on the forum ive been dumping money into mine fixing all these little problems yfz's seem to have. no way in hell il sell it to get a honda though everyone ive ever seen ran like shit and had no power compared to the yfz. if anything id get a LTR450 thats what i always wanted but couldent find one cheap so i bought a yfz never riddin one or raced one so idk what there all about but they look sick.
