A while back it was discussed about doing a stronger clutch and yfz450#69 gave me some information about doing a modification to the stock clutch and I quote:
i read that your thinking of doing something with your clutch? just thought id let you know of a few tricks ive come up with that ont cost much to do. Ive posted them before and i thought id pm you instead of posting them again in your thread and then have a lot of questions jacking it anyway, this mod is nearly the same as the YZ setup but without the heavy pull, and it lasted a long time in my HC 470 last year and its holding up good this year in my 06's when you have the cluch apart, take out the small fibre plate, the curved washer and the small flat ring at the bottom of the basket. replace these 3 with another full size oem fibre your clutch will be a bit more bitier, but not as much as a YZ setup. if you do some low speed trail stuff the YZ setup is a PITA, you wil stall alot, this mod is a good combo of the YFZ and the YZ Going by this info and this pic........ ![]() You would need to order (7) part #7's and ( Everything else stays the same like the springs and such right? And is this just using OEM parts or can this be done with aftermarket parts? I'm only asking this because I've gotten a few PM's and somewhere I posted this information (I don't know where ) so I want to get this out in the open so if anyone else wants to do it or has an answer can chime in.

Alter---You are 100% CORRECT.... Yes I would change your springs. Springs can fatigue over time losing some clamping force. You can also buy stiffer springs if you feel you need them, but this will increase the effort required to pull your clutch.

That is the clutch arrangement I use now except I run the Ron Wood springs, which require a death grip to pull in. If I were not useing it for drag racing where you rarely use the clutch I would stick with the YZ springs or even OEM springs. I tried the EBC clutch and their springs and they were stiff and the fibers did not last long in my motor. That EBC is what I had when we were all out for L.S. that trip.

I have no idea what u are talking about. I tried to shift and now the bike wont go into gear or anything u can hear it click but its like the clutch is always engaged and it will not move. The arm thing that the cable is hooked to is moving back and forth freely like it is supposed to i think. It seems to be hitting on my case saver////

does the lever have any tension or is it just like the cable isnt connected?
did you put all new plates in or just do the mod? if you put all new plates in you will have to readjust your cable, even with just doing the mod you will need to adjust your cable a little

I just did the mod. Like i dont even have the cable hooked up if u try and roll the clutch and basket the bike moves but if u shift whichever way and try to roll just the bike it rolls like its in neutral all the time. The clutch basket and stuff go into gear but the bike does not if that makes any sense... I pulled my clutch cable really hard and felt something kind of give and now i have nothin. I really hope its something easy i gotta race this weekedn...

sounds like a couple of issues...one at a time.
do you have tension on the cable? does it feel normal when you pull the clutch lever in and let it out? does the pressure plate move when you pull the lever in and out? with the lever out, can you move the clutch plates back and forth by hand?

If I'm just doing the mod without replacing the existing plates, then all I need is 1 part #8? The quad has probably 40 hours or less, would there be enough wear on the clutch plates to just replace all of them, or is there not enough hours on them to worry about the existing clutch plates?

And Adam, if you read this do you mind doing the write-up yourself so you get credit for this information? PM me when you're ready and I'll combine the topics so your're the topic starter.
