Those are two different timing changes.

One is cam timing.... changes when the valve it's self opens/ closes etc.

The MSD controls the ignition timing... when the spark is ignited.

Just bought my wife an '07 YFZ450 SE. The bike has as an LTE (Looney Tuned) dual exhaust and intake kit with K&N. I ride a Raptor 700 but am looking forward to riding with my friends, who all have Honda TRX 450's, and show them what the Yamaha 450 can do.

So the question is that I may have missed over, is the Cam Mod sufficient on its own with stock cam, or more effective with a new HotCam? Or will the HotCam and mod cause problems?

Thanks, Tyler

You can not cam mod a Hot Cam brand cam. They come modded from HC.

Congrats on the yfz.

That would make since. Thanks!! So any benifits between the two options (besides cost of new cam)? On performance?

Great step by step, Did today. Can feel a differents on the topend for sure. The only thing you should add to that is a pic showing the criss cross pattern to torque the bolts for the people that dont know to to that. I saw one and can't find it now

Why? I was looking at this option, but now I want to know why you think this. You got to tell the whole story.

Did you release the flat head screw inside the the auto cam chain tensioner? When you took it off did you tighten down the screw under the big bolt in the middle of the tensioner so it retracts the plunger, then when you put it back together you just turn the screw a little bit to loosen it, then it adjusts itself? Do NOT adjust it manually by screwing the screw till the chain is tight, just back it off a little bit and it will do the rest by itself.

I don't think there is a difference until '09 the fuel injected YFZs are already modded from the factory.

I did everything like u just said twice cause its jumped twice. I've looked and the 06up have deferent part #'s for the cam and crank than 05 down. I talked to a yamaha service guy he said tighten the tensioner a little when u release the tension... gonna try that I guess and put it back stock

Hot cams do make more hp over 8k rpm over the cam mod, but loose 3-4hp under 8k rpm compared to the cam mod.

So the bigger question is what rpm do you spend your time in?

It does not apply to the FI models, but you can use the carb intake cam in a FI for more power.

What would happen if the cam mod was done backwards where the exhaust cam was advanced 1 tooth? I tore my bike apart and that's how it was so I did the cam mod and haven't had a chance to drive it yet.
