Well, you HEARD wrong.

Best thing to do other then listen to rumors is to try it. The best thing about it is it isn't permanent and can be changed back. I hate scuttlebutt.

Im debating having the cam mod done in my 05. Its going in for service next weekend, to have the valves re-shimmed and the dealer said it wouldnt cost anything extra to do it.

Some people have claimed a loss of performance with this, is this year specific? Will it need to be re-jetted or no? Also, is the exhaust cam to be knocked back one tooth or foward one tooth - I assume foward since its being rotated one tooth clockwise but Im unsure.

Thanks for the help and a great informational post. Id do it on my own but its only 125 with parts from the dealer and Im not comfortable enough wiht the machine yet to do something like this myself...time is also an issue.

You rotate the exhaust cam clockwise one tooth looking at the cam sprocket side of the head.

Jetting change...maybe. Most people have to increase the pilot one size up.

I've had it on my 05 for more then a year. No loss of low end performance. It actually increases mid to upper performance and most think because there's no change in low end you're actually loosing performance..not the case.

Best free mod you can do IMO.

The only way it would mess up the motor is if it were done incorrectly. If done correctly there will be no damage.

Enjoy

This is an awesome mod, no loss of power in the lower range, much more in the mid and upper. I love it. However make sure that someone who is capable of doing the mod does it for you, and NO, THE DEALER IS NOT ALWAYS CAPABLE. Trust me I speak from experience. I let one of the local Yami dealers do the mod after I purchased my 06 YFZ. It ran well, hard to start sometimes, but once running, she ran really well. Took her in for her first service this last week, got a call from the Service Manager telling me that they had found a problem. The tech that did my cam mod left out a ciri-clip, and had also over tightened the cam towers!!!! How does a tech do this?? I thought that they got all this training and stuff, and have the tech manuals to make sure that they do it right. So I got $2000 in new parts, it had destroyed both cams and cam towers, they ended up replacing almost everything in my engine due to metal flecks from the cams and towers being forced throughout the engine. Needless to say, I was not very happy. It took them a whole week to fix everything. At least my warranty covered everything, since it was their tech that screwed up. So this time I decided that I would do the mod myself, I have the tools and the know-how and of course access to this great topic. Guess what, I did it right. Runs great, just got done checking everything, pulled the top, no metal on metal contact. Changed the oil, no metal flecks!!! Success, sweet success!!

Thanks for the great topic! You all rock!

Lets take a poll on how many people have done this mod and feel it was

A-Great, with no loss of low end power and much improved top end.

B-OK, can feel a little difference

C-Poor, loss of low end power with engine problems or other issues.

No. Too many people are opinionated without facts. You can not "prove" an opinion.
