Is there parts from a '07 and newer 450, that a guy could bolt on or modify an installation slightly, on a '04, to make the oiling better than stock?

How is the jet installed/secured? why did you go with a jet and not just a hole?

I'd be afraid of the jet coming lose and causing all hell.

hey guys.

I have the oil update kit on sale on ebay for $170.00

You get the new hi flow oil pump and the yamaha nozzle that works better than the jet or hole. This is Yamaha's fix for the problem and my kit will make your case and oiling system the exact same as the new 450's. this kit is for ALL 04-06's

You can also just call to order

I ran across this thread a while back when i was rebuilding my engine . so i gave it a shot took about 30 min of precise measuring and it was done, turned out great. thanks for the right up!!!!

but i know there were questions about the athena bb kit being in the way. i have pics that i would like to get posted of it. but the athena actually has more room than the stock because there is a bigger moon shape at the bottom of the cylinder.

if you have a hard time finding the angle of the jet to spray(3 axis tilt) just hold the drill bit on the spot were it will be drilled, then move the crank up and down real slow, find the angle at which the bit is pointing at the piston pin the most.

Cool oil mod

I sent my case to j&t products, bout 200$. Im fairly new to riding and wad my first time digging into the engine. When i put the case back on, am I supposed to use thread locker or??? Tightened down the bolts but felt like they would strip out really easy.

Ive got the same question, just cracked the case on my '05 from chain breaking. Can i just buy '07 cases and oil pump to resolve the oil mod problem?
Please let me know as I need to order cases soon.
Thanks in advance

On my oil update kit the only case need to machined is the clutch cover case on the right side of motor. On the mod fix you can drill the center cases and the clutch cover case. I have never done one like this and would not now that Yamha has put a better fix out there for this problem.

You would need the right side case cover with the oil nozzle as well as the oil pump from the 08 motor. This way you will have the factory upgrade rather than the "mod"

[QUOTE=gtilley45;360989]I sent mine to Kenz Cycle Tech to have it done. It was worth the $65 to me to let them do it so I wouldn't have to worry about screwing it up. Also, they didn't install a jet in mine, it's just got a hole.

I know this sounds stupid but if it just has a hole how does it spray the oil where it needs to be. I still have to do and it and was just wondering.

It's more than "just a hole". It's actually a small hole drilled into the casting that acts as a jet to spray high pressure oil from the oiling system onto the underside of the piston. When you drill the hole, it needs to be at the right angle in order to spray the oil in the right location.
