Default which cdi.or stock

i think my cdi is bad, causing no spark.
whats the benefit of having a programmable one.do you have to have other equipment to program or reprogram it.whats that do.

ive read that aftermarket cdi's raise the rev limiter.i dont think thats a good idea.but have read with mods kinda like mine the motor is okay to be rev'ed higher.dont sound right to me ,but is this true.

i dont race but might someday.will the seat of the paints dyno tell the difference in stock or a good aftermarket cdi.which one gives the best increase and about how much

If it were an all out built race bike, I like Vortex/Tokyo Mods ignitions. SOTP dyno... I'm not sure you would notice a huge difference. As ldjbuff stated, you would want more mods before you worry about a programmable ignition. (Port, higher comp piston, & stepped (staged) race exhaust.

Did your wire from the coil to the rubber piece that fits over the spark plug burn up? I had a few TRXs where I had to twist that rubber piece off and found the wire was burned up. Strip the coil wire back a little (3/16-1/4"), re-insert into rubber piece, and everything was fine. Just a thought.

If you decide to go with an aftermarket CDI The dynatek is one of the best out there. I have had a bad experience with the procom cdi which alot of companys sell as their own. I used the dynatek fs non programmable version with noticable results. I hate to see anyone end up with a $130 paperwieght as I did. buy a quality product and dont look back. Dynatek also has EXCELLENT customer support.

I would buy another stock cdi, the gains (if you actually see a gain) are very small. If you do feel the need to spend money on an aftermarket cdi your best bet on a carbed yfz is a programmable dynatech with custom curves programmed for your build.

I believe that a dynatek fs is cheaper than the oem box unless you find one used that has been tested. take advantage of the timing advance it offers if nothing else.

called the stealership.wow.335 for oem the gytr is 319.way more than i want to spend.last night i checked all wires, connections.tested ohm load on stator 288ohm.on the charging side .didnt check lighting side.tried checking cdi with light tester .touched pins while hitting start button.the light would act like it was (firing)working.but not constantly.and i dont know if any of the other pins should have lit up the tester or not.

Do you know anyone with the same machine? try theirs and see if it makes a difference. I believe that my dynatek came from atv galaxy on eBay but thats been a while. The cdi I bought that never worked right was a big gun which is supposed to be made by procom. Good luck!

I have a big gun and so far no issues and noticable gains. I will go with a programmable dynatek in the future. I got the big gun for 20 bucks so I figured I would give it a shot.

Check out your key switch or the run switch on the handlebars. Are you using a killswitch? It could also be that. I had a similar problem that ended up being the switch on the bars on a mini atv we owned.
