Well i threw my chain cracked my case.... Shitty Deal. Well now since i'm already into the internals i'm goin hi-performance on it. I was really comfortable with the power before had great range all over (BTW IT'S A O6' Completely stock). But i always wanted some more ummffff out of it. I've owned several quads before this and have done the typical upgrades, Pipe, Filter, Jet. But never internal. So i could use some advice on what kind of internal upgrades i can do for my style of riding. I do alot of trail being from washington and i only live 20 miles from a track (Riverdale Raceway Toutle Lake, Wa) So i go there a bit. only go to the dunes bout 2-3 times a year. So what do you guys think i should do for internal upgrades. I WANT THE MOST BANG FOR MY BUCK!!! Oil mod is a must and i've planned on doing the cams (Stage II) i was thinking so i think that kills the cam mod. WHATCHA GUYS THINK I SHOULD DO.

If you still want to run pump gas i would get any cp or wiseco piston unter 13:1 and get either those stage 2 hotcams or do the cam mod. You could send your head to Mmad to get it ported. A fuel customs intake is also a really great upgrade. If you want to run racegas you could get a higher compresion piston

Yea i saw some pistons that were a slight compression upgrade. i thinkg the stock is 12.5 right? The ones i found were 13.5 would i need to run 110 in it then? i was also thinking a some mild porting but i'm not sure if that would make it tempermental at all. It's my first yfz

Hey man before you spend the money on the HC stage 2 cams do a search on here an you will find out they really aren't worth the money for the YFZ. Just do the cam mod. Get a quality pump gas piston as stated before, good full exhaust system, if the funds are available get your head done. There are many good builders you can send it to I am not going to try to sell you on one particular one though.

Stock compression for an 05 is 11.9:1 and stock for an 06 is 11.4:1. I am currently rebuilding my motor and i got an 06 crank for my 05 to give it an extra 10cc and i bought a wiseco 12.4:1 piston. Before i had a venom 12.25:1, FCI, Cam mod, and nmotion pipe and it had good power so i would reccomend you get a little better piston a fuel customs intake do the cam mod and get a full exhaust if you don't allready have one

Thanks man. I've heard alot of good bout the cam mod from people but nothing about upgraded cams from people so thank you. Does wiseco make a piston that is slightly upgraded that i can run pump gas on? Cause thats one of the things i was planning on doing but i'm not sure what brand to go with. What exhaust u guys suggest i was thinking about Dubach or HMF.

Don't get it bored just get the 06 or newer OEM crank. Since you already said you were planning on doing the oil mod that part is covered already. Weisco has a 12.5:1 which if you are wanting to stay with pump gas I wouldn't go any higher. As far as port work if done by a legit builder it will not affect the reliability. And as far as exhast question you will get a different answer depending on who you ask. I have ran HMF, FMF, GYTR, and now Motoworks SR4 G2. They all have their advantages, and disadvantages.

actually wiseco just makes a 12.4:1. They make a piston that is a 4835 part number and it is for 04-09 and it is 13:1 in a 04-05 and 12.4:1 for 06+. I have an Nmotion exaust which is now called JSR performance and i love mine

I've heard of this WR Crank that people are putting in the bikes i'm sure its from a wr450f even thou i haven't found anything that says that i'm just going off of common sense. Is this a serious upgrade? I mean if i'm already in there i figure if it's gunna increase power i might as well do it. Is there anything else that goes along with it ect. or is it plug and PLAY :)

How it happened to me. I was trail riding in my local sticks (Alot of utility quads around here but nothing a sport quad can handle if you know how to ride it and have tall enough tires. I myself run 20 Holeshot HD 6PLY they sit about the same as a 22 if not taller so you can pretty much go anywhere they do) and i came up on a nasty hill climb that had been rutted out by some grizzly of a quad/quads tried to ride the center and the side of the ruts SIDE NOTE: we just had heavy rain. i slid into the ruts bout half way up and was just F***ed so i started goin sliding back down no control front tires locked and when straight into a widow maker rock that hit my sprocket, Threw my chain off of it, Which it then got bundled up by my chain slide which locked my front sprocket in place then KA POW something my gear shaft selector (Or whatever you want to call it the shifter shaft) some how took all the force bent and cracked the case where it connects 2 the engine. The only way i've been told how to prevent this is not to throw the chain. LOL Make sure it's tight constantly Before each ride and Inbetween if you got time. I've been told case savers have not saved any cases lol

Yeah I hear ya I am by no.means done racing in fact just getting back into it. And have always said I wouldn't build a stroked or big bore motor. Well seeing both my rebuilds are coming to an end I have already decided on the next project.

Send your head off to Sparks racing to be ported. Purchase their mx camshafts and one of their custom JE pistons. You can choose the compression you want from 11:1 all the way up to 15:1. Install a falicon billet crank and have Sparks bore your carb to 43mm. Finish the build off with one of their pipes. If you contact Curtis Sparks racing, they will set you up with a perfect, powerful, and reliable engine. Imho Sparks is hands down the best engine builder for the trx and yfz.

budget determines build...just a pipe, intake, cam mod and a good tune on a stock bike would give you alot more usuable power. be real nice gains.
hot cam stage 2 is a good cam, even geoff @ mmad told me you can get real good power from hc2 especially on heads that flow average cfm, but the cam isn't necessary for good ridable power. i run several builds up to 565cc and i always loved my wife's pump gas 450 with the stock cams modded. i thought the front end was in the air more with the stockers which was great for trail riding. loved having that bottom end grunt. |
