Default Video editing software?!?!?!

I know there has been a couple threads on here discussing this, but they were all years old.

My question is what is a good editing software for Go-Pro videos (clip, change speeds, effects and so on...). I dont want to spend 500$ on this crap, i think that's a lil crazy since I am just doing this for fun... I know of software's like vegas video pro and adobe premiere pro and stuff, but thats crazy expensive. I have the new Windows Live Movie Maker, but you cant edit the speed of the videos and stuff on the new one.

It would be great if I could use a comp with just windows xp, but if windows 7 is needed, i can use my bro's comp...

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanx guys!

Really? How would I go about sending them?

I dont have a ton of footage now, just a couple motos from a helmet cam and 5 or so passes from inside my drag truck. More or less thinking about in the future ya know... (Just got the go-pro a couple months back)

Im not going to say that you can or can not download it for free. But you may try googling it or looking it up on youtube.

With my old GoPro i used windows movie maker, but since the newer GoPros use a different file type I started using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 that requires a lot out of your computer. My old dell couldnt use it, Adobe didnt even want to install said my computer sucked. But you can get these programs for free using torrent, how that program works no clue, thats why im glad i got friends that are complete nerds!

I've been using windows movie maker live .. It's fine but sorter lacking in the creativity area
I hear the adobe video editor is good for pc
And For Mac's final cut pro x is excellent

I dont convert cause Adobe Premiere can use that file type. Then after Im done editing I use Adobe Media Encoder CS5 to compress the file and doesnt compromise quality

If you don't want to spend the money on the good stuff:

If you have a PC use Premiere Elements. $99 version of Premiere Pro.

If you have a Mac use Final Cut Express. $99 version of Final Cut Pro.
