New Guy From CT

Hey everybody, I've been riding for almost 3 years now, work on everything with an engine in it, and that's what leads me here. I really like the looks and the feel of the new 2016 YFZ450R anniversary edition. I got the opportunity to ride one over the summer, and ever since then, I've been looking around for the right deal on one. It's difficult not to love everything about it, from the overall feel, to the classic anniversary bumblebee graphics!

Currently, I've got a '99 Banshee, still a 350 but a long list of work done (like every other 'shee!) and an '05 TRX450R for ATV's. I absolutely love all the 450R's opposed to any 400/700/whatever, and my TRX has been nothing but trouble-free since I got my hands on it, but going from my TRX to the YFZ was a night and day difference. Fuel injection is a beautiful thing! Much quieter, smoother, more powerful, just an all around improvement.

Anywho, I'm pretty dead set on the 2016 YFZ450R SE, I've decided I'm going to leave the drivetrain stock (no exhaust, power commander, etc) but I would like to know if there's anything I should be looking out for, or anything that I should do before anything else. There are a few locally between $6k to $8k but I'm not sure if that's a good deal or not.

Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for the information!

- Phil

I don't know what you rode, but the fuel injection/power delivery was FAR from being smooth on a stock bike.
All it would do is bog and die.
That's why I bought a vortex. Put it on my bone stock bike. Best investment I made.
Once that was on, that is how FI should've been from the factory.

I honestly don't know what was done to it, it was a 2016 SE, had a stock exhaust and everything else appeared stock too, short of the grab bar. But I don't know for sure if anything was changed in the programming. That's good to know, thanks for your advice, what year is yours, 2016 as well? Just curious

Mines an 11. But the bog plauges all R's.
Also once you change anything you'll need a programmer. So might as well go to the best and be done with it.

Looks like the AIS delete will go along with the Vortex when the time comes. Trying to stick with a stock exhaust due to noise restrictions in some of the areas I ride. Thank you for your advice!

09-17 bikes are pretty much the same so if your having a hard time finding a 16se buy what ever year you like and put the 16se plastic on it! ;)

If you do want to go with an a aftermarket exhaust the Yoshimura RS 2 with spark arrestor is a good choice and it is fairly quiet! Like the above posts mention buy the Vortex...

Thank you for your input, Kilroy! I appreciate your input. The vortex is definitely #1 on the list of things to-do when I do finally buy one. How much louder than stock is the RS-2? I've got some neighbors who are so nosey, that as soon as I pull my TRX or banshee out the garage and start it they complain (and i live 1/10th of a mile away from the street...) so basically I'd like to enjoy hassle-free riding and I'm willing to sacrifice a little bit of my performance for that.

I guess that's part of life, when you live near retired people with NOTHING better to do than get into other's business.

I believe the OEM exhaust is around 84db.....don't quote me on this and the RS 2 with spark arrestor in is between 93 to 96db on my db meter on my cell phone.....
